Job Description:

Participates in defining functional design, development and systems architecture for Caterpillar's state-of-the-art digital platform aligning to common department goals in line with CAT Digital Strategy. Principal Digital Architect will assist teams that will build a world class platform to host a wide range of digital applications.

In addition, the Principal Digital Architect will provide technical leadership for connected asset and Industrial IoT solutions spanning onboard systems, edge computing, connectivity platforms, cloud services, data platforms, analytics, and customer-facing applications. The role is responsible for the architecture, standards, and technology roadmap for the end-to-end connected ecosystem, ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient solutions from device to glass. This includes defining architectures for device connectivity, data exchange, edge-to-cloud integration, remote device management, telemetry-driven services, and digital product experiences. The architect will collaborate across product, engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and business teams to enable fleet management, equipment health monitoring, predictive maintenance, AI-enabled user experiences, and future connected equipment capabilities while aligning technology investments to Caterpillar's long-term digital strategy.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight for architecture assessment and design for infrastructure, information or integration domains that provide core capabilities for the enterprise.
  • Lead Architecture design of end-to-end enterprise integrated systems that serves multiple business functions.
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise data model and metadata structures for complex projects.
  • Drive architecture and design patterns for various programs including manufacturing, heavy equipment condition monitoring and fleet management.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in cloud, AI, commerce, marketing content management and related fields, evaluate new developments and technologies for potential integration into existing and future architecture. Initiate and deliver technology evaluation and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain current, planned, and future state architecture blueprints. Lead in the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers and requirements that drive the future state architecture.


What You Will Have:
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Platform Architecture: Knowledge of technologies and methods to design processing mechanisms and roadmaps to execute business application systems; ability to design these roadmaps and deploy supportive interfaces for end-users to access related systems, in accordance with standards and processes.
  • Target Architecture: Knowledge of target architecture; ability to develop the blueprint and roadmap while aligning the architecture and processes with business strategies and objectives


Consideration for top candidates:
  • Four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a Computer Science or Information Technology, or related field with 10+ years of experience
  • Strong demonstratable experience delivering product and/or enterprise architecture for enterprise scale solutions in public cloud and hybrid eco-systems. (AWS & Azure)
  • Experience in at least 3 of the following AWS services (ECS, Lambda, Dynamo, S3, RDS, ElasticSearch, SQS, Kinesis, NLB, API GW, IAM, VPC, Route53)
  • Familiarity with operationalizing Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence capabilities

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $258,570.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
