Full Job Description
What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP) is our directional virtualization infrastructure, supporting critical 4G/5G wireless applications. The infrastructure at the Far Edge is used for deploying 5G applications that power the virtualized 5G VRAN networks. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of advanced automation solutions for our network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a senior-level expert in software development, automation, and system architecture, with a proven track record of solving complex technical challenges and driving significant efficiency gains. This role requires a strong background in a variety of technologies, including AI, Python, Ansible, and experience with cloud-native environments. The Principal Engineer will be instrumental in mentoring junior team members, developing best practices, and shaping the future direction of our automation strategy.

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust automation solutions using Python and Ansible for network element deployments, upgrades, pre-checks, and post-checks.

  • Architect and manage complex system integrations, ensuring seamless communication between various platforms (e.g., ATLAS, VCPFE, IOP, Conquest CIQ) via API calls.

  • Investigate and resolve complex production and lab environment issues, including automation failures, API response timeouts, and infrastructure-level problems.

  • Develop and optimize containerized applications using Docker, and streamline deployment processes by leveraging CI/CD principles.

  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance, training, and knowledge transfer to team members on complex technical processes, new tools, and best practices.

  • Create and update comprehensive technical documentation (MOPs, design documents) to reflect current architecture and processes. Redesign and refactor existing workflows for improved efficiency, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams (SI, VRAN, Planning, MP, ATLAS, IOP) to define requirements, troubleshoot issues, and drive project resolutions.

  • Lead code reviews to deliver automation solutions without compromising delivery timelines or current production system performance.

***This role can be located in any US-based Verizon hub location.***

  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies like Docker.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases, including data migration and querying.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and debugging skills.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead discussions and provide clear technical guidance.
