Principal Associate, Front End Design Systems
This is a Hybrid position located in Plano, TX. Relocation to Plano, TX is required if you're not located in the Dallas, TX area.

We are seeking a Principal Frontend Associate to be a key individual contributor on our team. In this role, you won't just be writing code; you'll be a crucial part of building the foundational, reusable components that our product engineering teams use to build features faster, more consistently, and with a higher standard of quality. You are a product-minded engineer who obsesses over details, thrives on complex technical challenges, and elevates the work of those around you.

What You'll Do
  • Build with Excellence:As a hands-on individual contributor, you will write clean, scalable, and highly performant code for our core component libraries and design system tooling.
  • Collaborate to Innovate:Partner closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to translate complex UI/UX designs and business requirements into robust, reusable, and well-tested technical solutions.
  • Uphold Quality and Consistency:Drive engineering excellence by building comprehensive automated tests, participating in detailed code reviews, and ensuring our components are resilient, efficient, and pixel-perfect.
  • Champion Accessibility:Act as a passionate advocate for inclusive design, ensuring all components and experiences meet and exceed enterprise accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA).
  • Mentor and Influence:Elevate the team's technical abilities by mentoring other engineers, sharing your knowledge, and promoting modern engineering best practices.
  • Drive Adoption:Help product teams successfully integrate our design system, gather feedback to guide our roadmap, and report on the impact of your work.

Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of professional frontend development experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience with modern frontend technologies, including TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), and Node.js.
  • At least 2 years of experience with modern web frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Strong proficiency in CSS for building responsive layouts and scalable component styles.
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex designs and requirements into modular, reusable components.
  • A solid understanding of semantic HTML and web accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Experience with frontend build tools, such as webpack, Vite, or Rollup.
  • Familiarity with consuming HTTP-based APIs (REST, GraphQL).
  • Experience working in an Agile or Kanban software development environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience building or making significant contributions to a design system.
  • Experience with a cloud computing provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Experience improving web performance by analyzing bundle size, optimizing assets, or improving load times.
  • Familiarity with native mobile development environments (e.g., Swift, Kotlin).

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Plano, TX: $119,400 - $136,200 for Pr. Associate, Design

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
