Job DescriptionThe Impact You Will Have in This RoleAs a Principal Application Support Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for the reliability, resiliency, and operational excellence of DTCC's Institutional Trade Processing (ITP) platforms supporting global cross-border equity and debt trade processing and settlement.
Leveraging Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, you will influence operational strategy, lead major incident response, drive automation and modernization initiatives, and mentor engineers across a portfolio of 40+ mission-critical applications spanning AWS, OpenShift, Kafka, IBM MQ, and distributed systems.
You will partner across globally distributed teams to improve platform stability, reduce operational risk, and drive continuous improvements that strengthen the resilience of DTCC's critical financial market infrastructure.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
Reliability & Incident Leadership - Lead resolution of critical production incidents and complex platform issues.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point and drive root cause analysis (RCA) and long-term corrective actions.
- Provide leadership visibility into service health, risks, and incident mitigation strategies.
Operational Excellence & Resiliency - Drive application availability, performance, and operational readiness across mission-critical platforms.
- Lead disaster recovery (DR), business continuity, and resiliency testing initiatives.
- Establish operational standards, monitoring strategies, and service-level compliance.
Automation & Continuous Improvement - Champion automation, observability, and self-healing capabilities to improve reliability and reduce operational effort.
- Drive continuous improvement across incident management, monitoring, and platform operations.
- Partner with engineering teams to modernize support practices and operational tooling.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration - Mentor engineers and promote best practices in reliability, troubleshooting, and operational excellence.
- Partner with Development, Infrastructure, Cloud, Security, Product, and Vendor teams to improve service reliability and customer experience.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that strengthen platform stability, scalability, and operational maturity.
Governance, Risk & Compliance - Ensure compliance with operational controls, ITIL processes, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Proactively identify operational risks and drive mitigation strategies.
- Maintain operational documentation, recovery procedures, and knowledge assets to support audit readiness and business resiliency.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent practical experience
- 8-10 years of experience supporting enterprise applications in complex production environments

Required Experience - Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including reliability, observability, automation, and incident prevention.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale, distributed applications in production environments.
- Experience with cloud technologies and modern infrastructure platforms.
- Understanding of messaging systems, middleware, and integration technologies (IBM MQ, Kafka, IIB, or similar).
- Exposure to container platforms such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, or Docker.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred skills - Kafka and event-driven architecture experience.
- Mainframe exposure (JCL, batch processing, job monitoring).
- Python or other scripting languages.
- Financial Services, Capital Markets, or Securities Processing experience.
- AI-driven automation or operational efficiency initiatives.
- Enterprise integration and distributed processing platforms.
The salary range is indicative for roles at the same level within DTCC across all US locations. Actual salary is determined based on the role, location, individual experience, skills, and other considerations.
