Position Title: Principal Accountant
Requisition ID: 1718
Position Location: Fairfax, VA OR Sterling, VA
Position Reports To: Corporate Controller
Supervises Others: No

Position Summary

As the Principal Accountant, you will report directly to the Controller, leading order-to-cash accounting for one of the Trident product lines. This role is responsible for timely month-end close, accurate financial data (GAAP) and audit readiness. The Senior Accountant will have autonomy over day-to-day accounting operations. This person must value accountability and autonomy.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts and related records in all areas of the financial statements, ensuring compliance with FAR and DFAR regulations.
  • Direct oversight and responsibility for the timeliness and accuracy of transactions associated with the day-to-day accounting functions
  • Prepare revenue recognition assessments, reconciliations of deferred revenue
  • Analyze contracts applying ASC 606 for performance obligations and variable consideration
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of various G/L accounts to ensure timely and accurate period close; Review team member reconciliations and support associated journal entries.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing process.
  • Demonstrate the ability to research and support the resolution of variances and discrepancies identified during transaction processing and reconciliations.
  • Maintenance of the general ledger subledgers to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements for internal and external stakeholder presentations.
  • Prepare property tax returns, sales & use tax returns, and various other corporate filings.
  • Provide support for external and internal audits (i.e., financial statement reviews, bank exams, DCAA) as related to assigned tasking responsibility areas.
  • Collaborate to maintain procedures and policies related to accounting and financial management.
  • General accounting duties and ad hoc tasking as assigned by management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 9+ years of experience
  • Experience in accounting for a government contractor.
  • Experience with applying principals to transactions in compliance with FAR, DCAA, and GAAP.
  • Demonstrated understanding of T&M, CPFF, FFP contracts.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are a must.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and drive projects to completion.
  • Attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-5 years of leadership experience
  • Quickbooks or Microsoft Business Central experience a plus.
  • Experience with high growth companies
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions
  • CPA preferred
