What you’ll be doing…As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the maintenance of cell site standards for equipment, frames, smart poles, concealment, cabinet cooling, and upconverters/OVP products. You will also manage the Assemble Wire and Test (AWAT) program while proactively testing and trialing emerging technologies. Acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for cell site equipment, you will provide critical support to market teams and collaborate directly with manufacturers to develop innovative solutions, such as alternate material direct-buried poles designed to replace traditional wood options.
In addition to engineering duties, this role involves vendor management for approximately 15 firms specializing in small cells, smart poles, exterior cabinets, and concealment, supporting VISL with technical and contractual resolutions. You will oversee system administration tasks, including inputting new item IDs into the MDG system and coordinating with VISL to ensure activation within the 1ERP framework. Furthermore, you will support strategic initiatives such as the Tanglewood project trials, Far Edge Server design and mounting, and the development of concealment options for mmWave radios.
Responsibilities
Creating and managing Verizon Corporate specifications, template drawings, company standards and directives as applicable to the various Mechanical systems. (Standards for all equipment frames, cabinets, etc, (NSTD123, NSTD350, NSTD405, etc)).
Product approvals when applicable with respect to direct purchasing of related equipment such as Interior/Exterior Cabinets and Frames.
Evaluating, piloting, and implementing emerging technologies, including cabinets, Concealed Poles, Smart Poles, Small Cells, Concealment, etc.
1ERP / VSIL / Vendor Management
Evaluating, piloting, and implementing emerging technologies within the Far Edge Server Support, 5G/6G systems
Supporting the Assembly Wire and Test (AWAT) Cabinet Program
Supporting the markets when developing and deploying Off-Grid Cell Site Support
Evaluating, piloting, and implementing emerging technologies in the Next Generation Cabinet Cooling
Partnering with Maintenance Engineering on products such as Up-converter and OVP product evaluation
What we’re looking for...You’re a technical expert with experience managing multiple medium to large projects at once. Cross-functional work is ideal for you, given your collaborative nature and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders across the organization. An individual who is highly organized and can make decisions that ensure Verizon’s cell site and systems meet the reliability demands of our wireless network. The ability to organize ideas and thoughts and present complex details in a way that is easy to understand. You will have a strong, customer-centric voice in assisting with and implementing our strategic roadmap.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training .
5+ years of experience designing complex mission critical systems.
Proficient in software packages including but not limited to AutoCAD and Google Office products.
Must be able to travel 25% of the time.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects.
Ability to organize and communicate complex design information to both technical staff members and laypeople.
Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
Experience evaluating and implementing new technologies.
Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer preferred but not required.
Experience with Cell Site Cooling Systems.

The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $107,000.00 - $205,000.00.
The annual salary range for the New York location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $118,000.00 - $205,000.00.
