Full Job Description
Summary:

We are seeking a Preclinical Laboratory Research Assistant that will engage in preclinical laboratory research, encompassing all aspects of original scientific research. This includes assessing behavior, pathophysiology, molecular mechanisms, and laboratory maintenance. The role involves integrating existing scientific literature, applying appropriate research methods, data collection, data management, and statistical data analysis.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop research proposals aligned with the military medical mission of Blast-Induced Neurotrauma research
  • Prepare written animal use and/or human subject protocols for research objectives
  • Navigate the WRAIR Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Human Use Review Committee (HURC) to obtain protocol approvals
  • Conduct literature reviews and develop summary reports relevant to ongoing research in blast TBI and polytrauma
  • Coordinate research projects, including experiment design, direction of research staff, and collaboration with other researchers
  • Provide subject matter expertise in traumatic brain injury and polytrauma
  • Perform routine and specialized surgical procedures on animal subjects
  • Evaluate neuroprotective pharmacological therapies using various outcome measures
  • Perform quantitative analytical assessments of molecular and cellular responses to stressors and injuries

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of neurobehavioral and physiological assessments
  • Proficiency in various surgical and experimental techniques
  • Excellent literature review and scientific writing skills
  • Ability to coordinate and lead research projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related field
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in preclinical laboratory research
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with animal subjects
  • Experience with animal handling, aseptic procedures, and surgical techniques
  • Proficiency in data collection, management, and statistical analysis
  • Experience in developing research proposals and navigating research protocol approval processes
  • Must be able to obtain government CAC


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master or Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology or related field is preferred
  • Familiarity with military medical research objectives is a plus


Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000 annually.
