A Day in the Life
Pre-Market Software Reliability Engineering Manager

In this exciting role as a Pre-market Software Reliability Engineering Manager, you will have responsibility for ensuring our products exceed the safety and reliability requirements and expectations of patients, clinicians, regulators, and the business.

This position provides software reliability engineering leadership for R&D. The candidate will be a key leader and player in cross-functional teams and serve as a focal point and technical representative for reliability, safety, and quality functions.

As part of R&D project teams, the Pre-market Software Reliability Engineering Manager will lead a team of pre-market software reliability, safety, and supplier quality engineers, this team will work with multidisciplinary teams and provide leadership for Design for Reliability (DfR), guidance to technical issues, engagement in design and risk reviews, and contribute to development activities.

CARDIAC RHYTHM AND HEART FAILURE offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms, as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions.

This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

A Day in Life:

The Functional Manager is accountable for the quarterly objectives and overall engagement of the organization. This includes responsibility for building and maintaining a team that consistently delivers embedded software functional excellence. The Functional Manager is ultimately accountable for their team's performance and execution. In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Pre-Market Software Reliability Engineering Manager role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Management of direct reports and several dotted-line reports. Management duties include budget management, resource management and project management.
  • Push change in an opportunity rich environment. Take risks and lead with bold enthusiasm to ensure we are perpetually evolving
  • Manage annual expense budget and help develop annual operating budget.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new team resources.
  • Coach and mentor staff resources. Manage team individual's performance and development plans.
  • Define team and organizational initiatives to improve team capabilities or efficiencies. Lead or delegate these initiatives.
  • Work cross-functionally with project teams to plan R&D project budgets and staff those teams.
  • Review team's deliverables and provide management review of QMS deliverables

Qualifications-

  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and minimum of 7 years of technical work experience OR advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math, with 5 years of technical experience and 5 years of demonstrated managerial experience


Nice to Have

  • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Certified Software Quality Engineers (CSQE) or equivalent certification
  • Experience in software fault tolerant design, fault prevention techniques, design for testability methods, software FMEA and FTA
  • Experience with Software Reliability Engineering models including reliability growth models
  • Experience in the design, maintenance, or continuation engineering of released software or software systems, including mobile applications and cloud-based services
  • Experience with automated and/or manual software tests and DevOps processes
  • Experience with Agile or behavior-based development
  • Experience in medical devices or other regulated industry
  • Experience working with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971 standards
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Lean Sigma (DFLS), Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM), or other robust design practices
  • Proficient in spreadsheets and project management tools
  • Demonstrated success in project management, with exceptional influence management skills

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$142,400.00 - $213,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
