Full Job Description
The Nurse Navigator is a liaison with our surgeons, the surgeon's office, the patient's primary physician and specialty service office practices, Surgical center nurses, Anesthesia, and the whole interdisciplinary team. Reviews for accuracy and ensures correct entry of Surgical postings and appointments in the EMR system. The RN in this role will interview and assess patients, review medications, and ensure all necessary paperwork and diagnostic information is complete, including possible medical or cardiac clearance, sleep studies, lab work, EKG, and any radiologic studies. Maintaining the role of patient advocate. The Nurse Navigator makes sure to interview (either in person, virtual or telephone) all patients who are going to have general or MAC forms of anesthesia. This role will provide assessment, care planning, education, coordination and consultation support to patients, families/caregivers, and clinical staff as the client transitions across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Receives and reviews surgical postings for accuracy, reviews pre-op orders. Obtains clarification on any discrepancies and potential omissions on the posting.
  2. Reports Special case needs to the Clinical Nurse Manager
  3. Asses all ASA 1, 2 and stable ASA III patients independently and consults surgical or anesthesia MD when appropriate.
  4. Follows Pre-Anesthesia conditions-based indications for testing rubric, to help patients navigate what clearances are needed and facilitates the appointment.
  5. Accurately records in the patient's pre-operative phone interview and records all relevant medical issues and identify any areas that require further investigation.
  6. Communicates pre-operative patient needs to the care team.

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Current BLS certification.
  2. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  3. Licensing: Possess a active Maryland Registered Nurse License.
  4. Minimum 2 years of experience in PACU or OR nursing.
  5. Expertise in otorhinolaryngological and/or plastics perioperative nursing preferred.
  6. Participation in continuing education
  7. Working knowledge of computers, keyboarding, and various programs for reporting and presenting information (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  8. Be comfortable with EMR systems (e-Clinical Works) and excited to use clinical nursing expertise to assess, educate and navigate patients through their Surgical experience.

Total Rewards

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Specialty Care Networks' salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographical location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/ training and other qualifications.
