Practice Operations Administrator

We are seeking a strategically minded, operationally disciplined, and relationship driven administrator to serve as a senior operational partner to the Department Chair and Associate Vice Chair of Operations. This role sits at the center of one of IU Health's most complex and matrixed academic departments, responsible for driving execution of departmental strategies, coordinating clinical quality and performance efforts, supporting the research enterprise, and partnering with faculty affairs and education leadership.

Shift:Full time, Monday - Friday, onsite

Location: Indianapolis, IN

The Scope:

This role drives operational and strategic execution across the Office of the Chair, including:
  • Partnering with the Physician in Charge and Chair to translate vision into actionable strategy, tracking progress on key initiatives and strategic goals, and driving execution of departmental priorities across clinical, research, and education functions
  • Identifying risks, recommending mitigation strategies, and leading special projects aligned with institutional priorities
  • Coordinating with division chiefs and hospital leadership on clinical performance metrics, patient safety, and quality improvement efforts
  • Monitoring operational KPIs including access, throughput, and care quality, and facilitating resolution of cross-departmental operational challenges
  • Supporting the Chair in advancing the research mission across basic science, translational research, and clinical trials infrastructure, with a focus on tracking research performance including funding and publications in pediatrics
  • Identifying opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and assisting with large grant initiatives and strategic partnerships
  • Partnering with Talent Acquisition to support faculty recruitment, onboarding, and retention, and coordinating faculty development initiatives, leadership programs, and performance review and promotions processes
  • Managing sensitive faculty matters with discretion and promoting a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and academic excellence
  • Partnering with education leaders across residency, fellowship, and medical student programs to support accreditation readiness, program reviews, and educational innovation
  • Coordinating key departmental committees and leadership meetings, developing agendas, tracking action items, and facilitating alignment across department, hospital, and medical school governance structures
  • Drafting and managing communications on behalf of the Chair and serving as a liaison to hospital leadership, medical school leadership, donors, and external partners


Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.
  • Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Requires 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience is a plus.
  • Requires a blend of management skills with technical expertise proven by superior planning, decision-making, negotiation, leadership and financial management skills/knowledge with a focus to adding value to the bottom line of the business.
