Powertrain Quality & Reliability Engineer - Transmission SystemsOverview / Summary We are seeking a Powertrain Quality & Reliability Engineer focused on 10-speed and hybrid transmission systems, with an emphasis on warranty analysis, field issue investigation, and root-cause resolution.
This role will support transmission system and component quality improvements while working closely with engineering, manufacturing, calibration, service, and supplier teams. The position requires a hands-on problem solver who can take ownership of product issues and contribute to improvements in cost, quality, reliability, and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities - Serve as a product development engineer responsible for 10-speed rear-wheel-drive (RWD) propulsion systems and their integration into vehicle spaces.
- Take ownership of transmission system and component warranty issues while working closely with component engineers.
- Evaluate current warranty trends and perform deep dives into field issues.
- Lead root-cause investigations and follow-up activities with assembly plants and service teams.
- Work with component and system design/release engineers, manufacturing plants, calibration teams, service teams, and dealers to resolve product issues.
- Work as part of a team to improve part quality and enhance the customer experience.
- Work with powertrain manufacturing and vehicle assembly plants on manufacturing-related improvement actions.
- Support product and system improvements related to quality, reliability, and warranty performance.
- Travel globally as required and support short-term travel related to manufacturing improvement activities and testing/hardware needs.
- Work onsite in Livonia, Michigan, four days per week or more depending on specific testing and hardware needs.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Experience or knowledge related to transmissions.
- Knowledge of calibration and vehicle data collection.
- Hands-on problem-solving skills and strong root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-starter capabilities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to foster relationships with suppliers.
- A mindset focused on curiosity and continuous improvement.
- Strong desire to learn from and teach others.
- Ability to support global travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Caltools, ATI, or similar tools.
- Experience with electric motor, hybrid, FHEV, or PHEV systems.
- Transmission or powertrain experience.
- Design/release engineering experience.
- Experience with 10-speed and/or hybrid transmission systems.
