Responsibilities

Powerhouse Shift Supervisor

What will you be doing!
  • Overseeing the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Powerhouse during your assigned shift.
  • Supervising and supporting Operating Engineers and Powerhouse personnel.
  • Ensuring continuous supply of electrical power, steam, compressed air, water, and other utilities.
  • Monitoring systems and identifying/responding to abnormal conditions or equipment issues.
  • Ensuring all required testing, inspections, and logbook entries are completed in accordance with regulations.
  • Supporting preventative maintenance, chemical treatment, and inventory management of plant systems.
  • Performing operational decision-making during power failures, emergencies, and equipment breakdowns.
  • Providing direction, coaching, and training to shift personnel.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Coordinating with internal teams and external partners (e.g., Hydro One) as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Must hold a valid Second Class Operating Engineer Certificate (Province of Ontario).
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of operational experience in a high-pressure steam plant.
    • Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience.
    • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Strong knowledge of applicable regulations and operating standards, including Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) requirements, Ontario Regulation 219/01, and applicable boiler and pressure vessel codes.
    • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capability.
    • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and during abnormal/emergency conditions.
    • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and a safety-focused mindset.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule: Shift-based rotation to support 24/7 continuous operations, averaging 42 Hours a week.
