Overview

Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FL office is seeking a Power Systems Engineer in Training with 2+ years of experience to join their Power Delivery team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and energy sectors, the Power Systems Engineer will act as a technical expert in the analysis of power systems transient and steady state. This is an in-office position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects e.g. commercial, industrial and generation projects
  • Studies performed may include (per candidate experience):
    • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis
    • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or any steady state power system tool
    • Transient studies using PSS/E and PSCAD
    • Harmonic studies using ETAP, PSCAD or transient software
    • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project types
    • Continually gain knowledge in power & energy industry
  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards


Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
  • PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred
  • Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems
  • Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • PE certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
