Position Description:

We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Developer with strong hands-on experience in database development and direct database-to-PostgreSQL migrations.

The successful candidate will have strong PostgreSQL development expertise and direct experience performing database migrations to PostgreSQL, preferably Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL. This is a hands-on development role focused on migration activities, complex SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, troubleshooting, and database performance.

Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies is also required, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Azure App Services, and Azure Function Apps.

This is a hybrid role requiring attendance at our downtown Toronto office and/or project location a minimum of 1-2 days per week. This requirement is subject to change at any time.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

- Execute and support database migrations to PostgreSQL, preferably from Microsoft SQL Server.
- Perform hands-on migration and conversion of database objects, SQL code, stored procedures, functions, views, tables, and data.
- Develop, modify, optimize, and troubleshoot complex PostgreSQL queries and stored procedures.
- Identify and resolve database compatibility issues during migration, including data types, SQL syntax, functions, and database objects.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation throughout database migration activities.
- Develop and support PostgreSQL databases within application environments.
- Work with database partitioning, indexes, statistics, and explain/execution plans to support performance optimization.
- Troubleshoot PostgreSQL development, performance, and migration-related issues.
- Develop and support solutions using Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.
- Work with Azure Data Factory pipelines, datasets, linked services, mappings, data flows, and integrations.
- Work with Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Azure App Services, and Azure Function Apps.
- Collaborate with application, data, and technical teams throughout migration and implementation activities.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

- 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in database and application development.
- Strong hands-on PostgreSQL development experience is required.
- Direct hands-on experience performing database-to-PostgreSQL migrations is required.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration is strongly preferred.
- Strong experience developing and migrating stored procedures, functions, views, tables, and other database objects.
- Strong SQL programming and troubleshooting skills, including complex queries and stored procedures.
- Experience resolving database migration and compatibility issues.
- Strong understanding of database partitioning, indexes, statistics, and explain/execution plans.
- Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure experience is required.
- Experience with Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Azure App Services, and Azure Function Apps.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000-$115,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
