Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the department of Neurology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will work on a project in a laboratory dedicated to studying the molecular pathogenesis of Parkinson's Disease and related disorders, identifying therapeutic targets and testing new therapeutic agents. The Postdoctoral Associate will work as part of a highly integrated research team utilizing a variety of laboratory technologies and approaches. Specialized skills in molecular/cellular biology and mouse model studies are needed for this position.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Treats and assesses mouse models of neurodegenerative disease using behavioral tests.
  • Breeds genetically modified mice, performs stereotaxic brain surgeries to delivery gene therapy through viral vectors or recombinant proteins, analyzes brains using morphological and biochemical assays including immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, HPLC, and q-PCR.
  • Performs molecular biologic experiments that involve cloning of specific cDNAs in various vectors including viral vectors, PCR, sequence analyses, transcription assays, Western blotting, DNA-protein interaction, and cell biologic studies.
  • Carries out studies with cultured cell lines, primary neurons and iPSc derived neurons.
  • Conducts basic laboratory experiments in in vitro systems to study proteins and their functions.
  • Analyzes data, organizes them and present them at laboratory meetings and major scientific meetings.

The position also requires effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to share research plans, results, and findings with colleagues and the broader scientific community.
