Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate within Cancer Pharmacology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct advanced research in pharmaceutical sciences and translational cancer biology, focusing on tumor microenvironment signaling, perineural invasion, and therapeutic resistance mechanisms in prostate cancer. The role involves designing and executing complex experimental studies involving drug target evaluation, molecular pharmacology, cell culture models, and in vivo xenografts to evaluate targeted therapeutic strategies. Additionally, the scholar will synthesize experimental data to draft manuscripts, present findings at scientific conferences, mentor trainees, and assist in driving project deliverables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Research & Experimental Design:

• Target & Resistance Evaluation: Conduct advanced research in pharmaceutical sciences and translational cancer biology, focusing on tumor microenvironment signaling, perineural invasion, and mechanisms of therapeutic resistance in prostate cancer.
• Experimental Execution: Design and execute complex experimental studies, including drug target evaluation, molecular pharmacology assays, cell culture models, and in vivo xenograft models to evaluate novel targeted therapeutic strategies.

Data Analysis & Scientific Communication:

• Publication & Writing: Synthesize and analyze complex experimental data to draft high-quality manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
• Conference Presentations: Present research findings at internal seminars and major national/international scientific conferences.

Mentorship & Project Management:

• Trainee Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate trainees in experimental protocols and lab techniques.
• Project Execution: Assist in driving overall project deliverables to ensure research milestones and grant objectives are met efficiently.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• PhD in Biology or a relevant science or an MD required.
• Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who are in the process of completing their PhD degree in Biology or a relevant science or MD degree. Documentation of the required degree completion must be provided prior to commencement of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is also essential.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
• Interaction with RUTGERS, RWJMS, CINJ, and RWJUH management, administrative, clinical and laboratory staff.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
• WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory work environment, with moderate noise. Exposure to biological specimens (cells, blood, tissues etc.) with possible exposure to infectious diseases, exposure to hazardous chemicals including therapeutic drugs. Laboratory environment operates under mandatory universal safety precaution.
