Join our Ports & Terminals Group to support the digital transformation journey for clients seeking digital solutions at their marine facilities including major container terminals, bulk and break-bulk facilities, and other port assets. You will work alongside technology vendors, consultants, and our clients' operational staff to identify improvement opportunities, troubleshoot challenges, and support the deployment of myriad integrated technologies that enable world-class automated operations. This role is critical to the success of Hatch Smart Ports team.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an Integration Engineer on a variety of engagements, responsible for producing deliverables, managing workstreams, budgets, and client interactions, and resolving project challenges within Hatch's project governance framework.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions in complex, multivariable, and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Work with clients and vendors to successfully integrate their solutions, through:
    • Specifying business / functional requirements
    • Developing test cases (based on operational scenarios)
    • Conducting tests in emulation environments
    • Supporting testing and commissioning in live equipment environments
    • Reviewing system outputs and logfiles to adjudicate on test results and document defects
    • Coordinating with different client groups (Operations, Project, Maintenance, etc.) and vendors to prioritize and schedule changes
    • Defining KPIs and data analytics approaches
    • Implementing data analytics solutions and the data infrastructure required to enable the analytics (e.g., OSISoft PI).
    • Assisting the client with defect and release management processes.
  • Support and conduct integration work on site at a client-specified location or remotely (fully or partially, depending on the project).
  • Lead and contribute to proposals, proposal interview materials, and other business development materials.
  • Build client relationships, promote Hatch's services, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Support staff development, management, and recruitment activities including active mentorship and development of colleagues in technical fields of port and marine competencies.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline-industrial, mechatronics, chemical, process, electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering-or operations research.
  • 5+ years' experience executing complex automation projects in an industrial sector such as infrastructure (e.g., ports, rail, cities), energy (e.g., power generation, oil and gas), metals (including mining), and/or heavy equipment.
  • Proven experience in successfully delivering value to industrial operations environments by integrating and implementing automation, real-time information management systems, and other digital solutions.
  • Excellent understanding of Software Development Lifecycle Management (SDLC) including quality assurance / automated testing, software configuration management, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of software development technologies: relational databases (e.g., SQL and Oracle), software programming / scripting (e.g., Java, C#, VB, NET, Python, R, MATLAB), messaging (e.g., XML / XSLT, JMS), regular expressions, and business intelligence technologies (e.g., Tableau, Spotfire).
  • Ability to understand and articulate how clients operate and their processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies, industrial processes, and operations.
  • Experience in working with distributed teams of professionals and in managing teams of professionals.
  • Ability to work in an environment of multiple parallel projects within a team environment.
  • Good time management, strong written and verbal communication, and presentation and organizational skills.
  • Strong team player with demonstrated leadership capabilities in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and/or work at client sites, often outside of normal business hours as part of a global team.


  • Preferred experience:
    • Knowledge of container terminal operational systems and equipment, including STS cranes, RTGs, TOS, GOS, Gates, ASCs, ARMGs, Auto-SCs, vessel planning, yard planning, top handlers, UTRs, OCR, RFID, and Wherenet industrial automation architectures.
    • Specific experience with OSISoft PI and Tableau would be an asset.


Salary Range: $130,000 - $201,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
