Job Overview

In this exciting role at our Washington, D.C.-based trade association, we are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Policy Communications Specialist to support federal policy and reputation management efforts. This position is ideal for a strong writer with direct Capitol Hill experience, a solid understanding of the legislative process and agriculture, and the ability to translate complex policy and regulatory issues into clear, compelling communications.

As part of Farm Credit's reputation management strategy, this role plays a key part in shaping how Farm Credit's policy priorities are communicated to Capitol Hill, the executive branch and other stakeholders. The Policy Communications Specialist will develop and execute messaging across press releases, statements, newsletters, while also supporting social media, website, and broader digital initiatives that advance Farm Credit's brand and policy priorities.

In addition to competitive benefits, the salary range for this position is $68,000-102,000 annually, with eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Additionally, FCC allows employees to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays

Job Responsibilities
  • Drafts and edits policy communications, including press releases, statements, opinion-editorials, talking points, and congressional-facing updates that align with Farm Credit priorities.
  • Tracks activity across Congress and the executive branch to inform timely messaging and support rapid response communications.
  • Translates complex legislative policy and regulatory issues into accessible messaging for internal and external audiences.
  • Monitors social and traditional media for opportunities to engage and identifies potential reputation threats.
  • Compiles and distributes the Farm Credit Daily News to member institutions.
  • Develops compelling customer story features, blog posts and web copy for FarmCredit.com to reinforce Farm Credit's mission and policy priorities.
  • Supports search engine optimization (SEO) efforts to improve website visibility and user experience (UX).
  • Assists in developing social media toolkits for Farm Credit sponsored events and partnerships.
  • Collaborates across internal teams to support other communications to maintain message consistency across platforms and mediums.


Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Marketing, Communications or Journalism.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in communications, public affairs, policy communications or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' professional work experience on Capitol Hill strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Congress, the executive branch and the U.S. political process is required.
  • Familiarity with and interest in agriculture policy, rural issues, or financial services is required.
  • Strong understanding of Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and other platforms, including best practices for optimization and analytics required.
  • Demonstrated experience representing the voice of a brand in writing and on digital platforms.
  • Familiarity with current trends and best practices for social media. Experience with Meltwater's social and traditional media tools preferred.
  • Experience with website management (WordPress) preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills required.
  • Experience drafting press releases, statements and email newsletters preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintains confidentiality as required and supports the core values and mission of the organization.
  • Position may require minimal travel.
