Full Job Description
As Police Technology Manager, you will provide strategic leadership for the Port of Seattle Police Department's technology ecosystem, ensuring that all public safety systems and digital evidence platforms effectively support operational needs. You will also guide technology planning and lifecycle management, serve as the department's primary technical liaison with ICT, Information Security, Procurement, and vendors, and ensure solutions are implemented, integrated, and supported in alignment with departmental and organizational requirements. • You will provide department-wide leadership and subject matter expertise for police technology systems, including body-worn cameras (BWC), in-car video, digital evidence platforms, mobile devices, and other specialized public safety applications. • You will serve as system administrator and business owner for assigned platforms, managing users, permissions, configurations, workflows, audit requirements, and change control. • You will oversee deployment, configuration, maintenance, and lifecycle management of police technology devices and systems, coordinating vendor support, monitoring service levels, and ensuring timely resolution of hardware, software, connectivity, access, and performance issues. • You will ensure all police technology solutions meet operational, legal, cybersecurity, and CJIS compliance requirements by collaborating with ICT, Information Security, and other department personnel to evaluate system performance, coordinate improvements, and maintain alignment with standards and policies. • You will manage digital evidence technical processes, ensuring secure and efficient transfer, storage, retention, retrieval, redaction, and integration with CAD/RMS and other law-enforcement systems. You will also partner with Police Records and Public Records staff to support lawful disclosure and retention. • You will analyze departmental operational needs and technology gaps, research market and vendor options, and develop recommendations, business cases, and presentations for department leadership. • You will lead cross-functional technology initiatives, coordinating sworn and professional staff, ICT, Information Security, Legal, Public Records, Procurement, vendors, and other stakeholders. • You will develop and deliver training, documentation, SOPs, job aids, and policy guidance to ensure proper, compliant, and consistent use of police technology and digital evidence systems. Who you are: • Experienced - You have four (4) years of experience implementing or administering information technology systems or body-worn camera ecosystems. • Certified - You have Washington State CJIS/ACCESS certification or the ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment. • Desired - We hope you have a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or project management. You are technically savvy and skilled at explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences, troubleshooting complex issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and coordinating timely resolutions across multiple teams and vendors. • Project Manager - You have demonstrated expertise in project and program management, including planning, scheduling, risk and change management, testing, implementation, performance measurement, and stakeholder communication. You are skilled at prioritizing and managing multiple high-priority projects and operational issues within a high-visibility, 24/7 public-safety environment. What else you need to know: • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies. • Work Environment - You will primarily work in an office environment. • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State. • Security Requirements - In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehicles. In compliance with Federal and State laws as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check. • Background Investigation - You must pass a background investigation that includes a complete criminal records check, a polygraph examination, and a drug screen. Background investigations will be conducted as openings occur and include the following: driving history, credit history, arrest records, military records, educational records, and other sources where information can be obtained to measure one's suitability for police work. You must successfully complete a training process once hired.
