That means we're continually seeking diligent, determined performers who think outside the box to help us find better and more efficient ways to manufacture our vehicles.

Manufacturing Engineer - APD Platform Execution
A platform strategy is a crucial, enterprise-wide approach that leverages a common, flexible, and scalable vehicle architecture. This creates investment and engineering efficiency while improving volume (scale) on parts for material cost leverage. This strategy also enables flexibility with each platform underpinning a bandwidth of vehicles that can be interchangeably produced in all planned assembly plants.

As a Platform Execution Engineer, this pivotal, highly visible role sits within our Architecture, Program Engineering & Delivery (APD) department shaping future model programs to be leaders in the industry using the platform approach. The APD-Platform Execution team acts on early insights with the Product Development (PD) team to optimize all aspects of new model production. As part of this team, you will interact directly with leadership to deliver the following as it relates to the three major Manufacturing functions of Body Construction Engineering, Global Paint Engineering, and Final Assembly Engineering.

  • Drive a Design For Assembly (DFA) mindset into new model vehicle part development by regularly collaborating with the PD team to minimize facility & tooling impact, improve quality, and reduce labor requirements
  • Initiate and collaborate with Manufacturing Core Teams on the development of the build sequence, installation processes, and tooling systems for new product launches
  • Quantify impact to manufacturing to launch new model programs including facility, tooling, and labor for all assembly functions
  • Utilize virtual tools, such as Active Workspace and TeamCenter, to evaluate the feasibility of new model designs for assembly
  • Remotely assess existing facility layouts to analyze assembly processes using Vault and AutoCAD for planning future work
  • Assess all product designs/concepts for adherence to our Global Manufacturing Requirements
  • Evaluate "Lessons Learned" from New Model launches and implement Prevent Reoccurrence Actions into future programs
  • Evaluate and assess competitive vehicle information i.e. benchmarking relative to manufacturing and processing of end item parts, sub-assemblies, and fastening/joining to determine incorporation on future product and develop next-generation ideas
  • Collaborate in a multi-functional team of Program Delivery teams, Product Development, Marketing, Program Planning, Supplier Technical Assistance, Material Planning & Logistics, New Model Programs, etc. in early product planning workshops
  • Travel to our North American assembly plants for site reviews as required

You'll have...
  • Bachelor's degree minimum with Engineering discipline preferred
  • 3-5 years of vehicle assembly experience required

Even better, you may have...
  • Vehicle launch experience expected
  • Practical assembly tooling implementation experience preferred
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office experience includes Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience conducting work in a virtual environment utilizing 3D tools required
  • Established leadership and project management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present complicated concepts to an audience with a broad range of experiences
  • Understanding of PFMEA and failure mode avoidance principles required
  • Ability to deliver in stressful situations with self-motivation and minimal direct supervision within timing constraints
  • Effective creativity to find solutions to unstructured or highly constrained problems
