Overview

We are seeking a full-time Platform Engineer at Garmin's location in the Greater Denver area. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and supporting the infrastructure and services that power our products, owning platforms from inception through development, testing, and release to production.

Essential Functions
  • Continuously designs, builds, and supports foundational infrastructure for developers
  • Address problems of scale to help us sustain current growth and prepare for the future
  • Implement technical solutions that benefit the entire team
  • Support our internal and external customers by developing build systems, cloud infrastructure, support tools, and providing assistance to the engineering team with these systems.
  • Mentor more junior developers
  • Review code written by team members to help ensure high-quality and performant code
  • Join the on call rotation, approximately one week per quarter
  • Help drive open and honest team communication, best practices and education in new technologies
  • Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin's 24/7 operations

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with designing well architectured software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality
  • Demonstrated competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project
  • Ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity, and complexity in work output
  • Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs
  • Mastered proficiency in writing software in C#, SQL, PHP, or Python, and relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object-oriented design methodology
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing in SQL and C#, PHP, Python, or a similar language
  • Excellent Infrastructure as a Code skills using Terraform, Ansible, and/or CloudFormation.
  • Experience addressing problems of scale
  • Experience with CI/CD processes and tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, etc.
  • Experience refactoring applications and seeing architectural changes through from design to completion
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or similar cloud technologies
  • Experience with Docker and Container Orchestration technologies
  • Understanding and implementation of microservices architecture and general software architecture design principles, Clean Architecture concepts, Domain-Driven Design, etc.
