Job Brief

Responsible for providing technical support resources for emulsion, SME and ANFO manufacturing and operations, focusing on asset management, preventive maintenance, reliability, troubleshooting and problem resolution for equipment issues.

What You'll Do:

As a Plant Engineer, you will support the identification, evaluation and execution of process technology improvement opportunities to improve process safety and profitability for Dyno Nobel Americas. You will be responsible for providing technical support resources for emulsion, SME and ANFO manufacturing and operations, focusing on asset management, preventive maintenance, reliability, troubleshooting and problem resolution for equipment issues. Other duties include:
  • Work with the plants to provide assurance and reporting metrics for compliance requirements (regulatory and internal standards)
  • Work with the emulsion production facilities to successfully complete design, execution and implementation of growth and sustenance projects to better manage existing processes, facilities, and infrastructures and successfully complete new construction projects on time and budget
  • Manage the equipment program to affect a reduction or elimination of identified operational risks including mechanical and facility related systems
  • Impact mechanical effectiveness, daily operations, overall plant safety, product quality and environmental and sustainability initiatives through implementation of effective major equipment management strategies, reduction of HSE risk profile and addressing reliability shortfalls
  • Ensure compliance with applicable company engineering and design standards for the manufacture of explosives and hazardous materials as well as compliance with applicable HSE rules, regulations, and standards
  • Work closely with maintenance planners, inspectors and other reliability specialists to ensure that preventive & predictive maintenance work plans are aligned with equipment maintenance strategies
  • Undertake and organize technical investigations, inspections, studies and surveys, and analyze historical data to determine equipment risk, criticality and performance. Continuously update and review equipment items in the DNA operational risk registers and implement effective controls and improvement actions
  • Support and promote the use of maintenance work quality systems and documentation such as Work Orders, Work Instructions, Procedures, Job Safety Analyses, Specifications, and Inspection & Test Plans; Initiate, undertake and follow through with reliability improvement projects including plant modifications
  • Ensure equipment and process design and construction meets customers' requirements, including project development of scoping processes and technical needs specifications
  • Provide process technology support throughout projects, from idea development through engineering, implementation, commissioning, and performance verification
  • Conduct operational tests to ensure that designs fall within the expected specifications. Design and improve processes to increase plant production efficiency and quality.
  • Assist in the generation of engineering designs (equipment layout, P&IDs, machine, piping, general) for existing assets as needed


What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years demonstrated skill in an emulsion manufacturing environment and troubleshooting industrial chemical processes
  • Basic knowledge of machinery, hydraulic & pneumatic systems, and infrastructure throughout a plant environment
  • Basic knowledge of materials and production processes, machinery and infrastructure
  • 1+ year AutoCAD experience is desirable. Must be able to read and interpret P&ID, PFD and general arrangement drawings
  • Experience with regulatory and code compliance relating to engineering design and construction preferred
