Join Our Team in Golden:

PWT is looking for a Planning Forester to join its Forestry & Resources Division based in Golden, B.C. or Malakwa, B.C.

Assist Senior Planning Forester in Forest license planning and development activities. May be assigned to lead and coordinate special projects, Inventory, GIS, SFL, or other.

JOB PURPOSE:

Assist Senior Planning Forester in Forest License planning and development activities. May Be assigned to lead and coordinate special projects, Inventory, GIS, SFL or other.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Monitor forest development, forest engineering and other forest development and planning related contracts.
  • Assist Senior Planning Forester with Operational plans, working with government and First Nations.
  • Design, implement and monitor all forest development and forest engineering plans.
  • Cutting permit and Road permit applications.
  • Cut block and Road Site Plan development and professional sign off.
  • Development and Planning Budget management.
  • Hire and manage performance of forestry development and engineering contractors.
  • Coordinate and lead special projects as assigned, such as inventory analysis, or GIS data gathering.
  • Mapping and Analysis using LRM GIS framework.
  • Prepares and submits comprehensive planning reports; assists with strategic planning.
  • Perform All duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • In-depth Knowledge of timber development and planning, timber cruising, GIS and GPS practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Forest Legislation, policy, as it relates to timber planning, harvesting and road construction.
  • Knowledge of non-timber forest legislation, policies and regulations
  • Knowledge of GIS, GPS and mapping hardware and software. LRM experience would be an asset.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrates supervisory skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to operate computer and supporting software.
  • Driver's License required.

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Diploma in Forest Resources Management combined with 2- 7+ years of forestry development and planning experience.
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or eligible to become registered.

EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-7+ years' forestry experience.
  • Demonstrate supervisory experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Frequent travel required.
  • 50% Outdoor environment subject to elements of nature.
  • 50% Office work on computer.

SALARY:

$95,000 to $115,000/yr based on experience.
