What We Are Looking For

The Operations & Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the day to day safe, efficient, and economical operation and general maintenance of the pipeline right of way, pipelines, and pipeline station equipment and facilities.

What You Will Do

  • Supervises, coordinates and manages the performance of direct reports including Right of Way Technicians, Electrical Technicians, Mechanical Technicians, Operations & Maintenance Specialists and contractors working within the area, to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the pipeline, pipeline right of way, and pipeline facilities.
  • Manage employee performance and work schedules, overtime, vacations, time sheets, expense reports, and other personnel issues.
  • Participates in employee employment and takes or is influential in employee discipline / corrective action.
  • Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of regulatory and company operating requirements and coordinates activities with regulatory agencies, other company departments, right of way landowners, the public, customers/shippers and local emergency response agencies.
  • Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team and is responsible for coordinating emergency response activities until a higher level or more appropriate manager arrives at the site.
  • Responsible for Emergency Response and line equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Coordinates or prepares or maintains various reports, records, diagrams and other documents concerning right of way issues, maintenance and operations issues, safety, regulatory compliance, and employee administrative issues. Records maintained may include U.S. Department of Transportation files, various maintenance records such as cathodic / corrosion protection, pipe to soil surveys, tank maintenance, right of way issues and maintenance, employee attendance and performance records, and various other files and records.
  • Assures that at least annual contact is maintained with right of way property owners. May negotiate with or be involved in the negotiations of various issues with property owners along the right of way in area of responsibility.
  • Initiates and follows to completion work projects assigned to the area.
  • Assists the Operations Manager in maintaining, updating and complying with all required plans.
  • Relieves the Operations Manager when the Manager is away from area.

What You Need

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and comprehend written material and perform work related mathematic calculations and understand and apply the results of those calculations.

Required Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
  • Experience with, and knowledge and understanding of, procedures involved in operating and maintaining a liquid pipeline system, including knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation.
  • Effective leadership / supervisory skills experience as a supervisor or the ability to learn supervisory skills.
  • Organizational skills to handle a variety of matters simultaneously.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Possess and maintain a valid drivers license.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to effectively and cooperatively work with other people and take direction and supervision.
  • Possess basic computer skills and be able to learn to use office and operating automation skills.
  • Ability to organize thoughts and material and clearly communicate, orally and in writing, with coworkers, contractors, government officials and customers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to walk over uneven and unpaved terrain in all weather and lighting conditions.
  • Ability to climb steps to access tanks and climb into and out of excavations to inspect or participate in repair, construction or environmental emergency response activities.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle on public roads and in unpaved pipeline right of way areas in all weather and lightning conditions.
  • Ability to read computer screens and printed reports showing various graphs and operations activities.
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary.
  • Visual, hearing and oral communication abilities to see and monitor happenings and effectively communicate work related actions to employees, regulatory agency employees, other management employees and the general public.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Leads, coordinates and manages the performances of direct reports including Right of Way Technicians, Electrical Technicians, Mechanical Technicians, Operations & Maintenance Specialists and contractors working within the area. Direct reports are members of a collective bargaining unit / union represented.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant 2 or 4 year degree.
  • 3 to 5 year work history with pipeline maintenance or utility right of way maintenance and correction protection with NACE certification.
  • Knowledge of the KM/Products (SE) Pipe Line system.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is inside and outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to be on call and report as needed and be able to work extended hours as required in emergencies, equipment or service interruptions, and/or other related circumstances.
