Job Summary

Examines and treats patients in an outpatient setting. Ensures proper injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Rural Health Clinic

Responsibilities

1. Assesses, plans, and provides primary patient care in an outpatient/clinic setting. Provides assistance for direction of the clinic activities and consultation for and medical supervision of the health care staff.

2. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data. Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition.

3. Prepare patient for procedures. Explain procedure, provides instruction, gain patient cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Ensures patient has understanding of therapeutic plans.

4. Promotes wellness and disease prevention programs. Provides instruction and counseling to individuals, families and groups in areas of health promotion and maintenance.

5. Documents patient care including but not limited to health history and results of physical examination.

6. Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioner for specialized treatment. Consults with specialists and other practitioners as required.

7. Administers or prescribes treatments and medications as authorized by West Virginia code and within limits of scope of practice

8. Be available through direct telephone communication for consultation assistance for medical emergencies when not physically present in the Rural Health Center.

9. Assist the Medical Director with the development and monitoring of professional liability risk management and quality of care medical audit programs as requested.

10. Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with hospital, Rural Health Center, and medical staff policies and procedures. Assumes responsibility for learning new policies and procedures.

11. Participate in the development and periodic review of clinical policies and processes and the services provided to state and federal program patients and other patients.

12. Complete a periodic review of patient health record with a physician assistant(s), peer groups, and others as requested.

13. Be present for sufficient periods of time to provide the direction, care services, consultations, and supervision described above (minimum of once in every two week period).

14. Be available through direct telephone communication for consultation assistance for medical emergencies when not physically present in the clinic.

15. Maintain appropriate licenses. Complete required continuing education. Document appropriately.

16. Attend and participate in various departmental, administrative, medical, and other committee meetings.

17. Completes special duties as assigned.
