Full Job Description
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Department of Urology is nationally recognized for excellence in patient care, surgical innovation, and clinical outcomes, We consistently rank as one of the top Urology departments in nation according to US. News & World Report for [redacted]. As part of a nationally ranked Urology team, the APP will contribute to cutting-edge care and surgical innovation. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will join a collaborative team where advanced practice providers are integrated into every aspect of patient care across outpatient and surgical settings.

The primary function of the Advanced Practice Provider is to assist supervising physicians in providing direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care. Demonstrate care that is effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of wellness. Counsel and educate patients and their families about disease and illness. This PA position will function in the outpatient clinic setting as well as the operating room. The primary work location is MD Anderson's Texas Medical Center campus, with occasional travel to other Houston-area locations as needed.

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in Urology, including at least two years of APP experience. Candidates should be committed to delivering patient-centered care, collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, and supporting both outpatient and surgical patient populations. New graduate applications will also be considered.

Advanced Practice Provider - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) - Urology

Salary: Minimum $117,500.00 - Midpoint $146,500.00 - Maximum $176,500.00

The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, with opportunities to moonlight on weekends.
Work Location: Texas Medical Center campus, with occasional travel to other Houston-area locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Obtains medical history and performs physical exam on patients. Interprets diagnostic tests and radiographic results and come up with a management plan for patients in concert with faculty physicians. Takes responsibility for patient assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient needs as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Dictates in chart for all patients seen.
  2. Reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results. Formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  3. Performs as first or second assist on operative cases using fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  4. Performs procedures, prescribes treatment, and signs prescriptions in accordance with institution and state requirements. Screens physician calls to educate patient/family on care and resources.
  5. Collaborates in research projects, formulates protocols, and applies research to practice.
  6. Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION
  • Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas State Board Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) or Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners (TSBNE), as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

Licensure/Certification
REQUIRED: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

PREFERRED: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
