Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited physician assistant program.
• APRN licensure in the work state or a compact party state and board certification.
• Physician Assistant - Certified credential and postgraduate fellowship in psychiatry/mental health or two years of direct psychiatric clinical experience.
• Prescriptive authorization is mandatory.
• Thorough knowledge in psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults, including those with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with experience in a team-based approach.
• Sound understanding of federal and state regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.

Responsibilities

• Provide coordinated mental and behavioral health care within a treatment team.
• Document patient care according to AWARE policy using electronic health records.
• Create and integrate psychiatric care plans with psychotherapeutic plans.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests relevant to patient care.
• Prescribe psychiatric medications where indicated.
• Recognize and address physical health issues, referring as necessary.
• Act as a resource for medication and treatment advice to teams.
• Evaluate treatment and medication effectiveness.
• Coordinate care with healthcare professionals both within and outside AWARE.
• Advocate for patients in various settings.
• Educate patients, families, and staff on managing psychiatric conditions and disabilities.
• Maintain required licensure and certification.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives as needed.
• Meet or exceed productivity benchmarks set by AWARE.
