Job Summary

Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams in providing diagnostic and therapeutic services within the University Hospital (UH) GIGU Radiology division. This role supports high-acuity inpatient and outpatient workflows, with a focus on patient-centered care, procedural support, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities*

Coordinate activities of the UH GI Radiology service, including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure patient care.

Perform and/or assist with diagnostic fluoroscopic procedures including but not limited to:
  • Upper GI studies, esophagrams, small bowel follow throughs
  • Feeding tube placement (Dobhoff, NG) under fluoroscopy and bridle placement
  • Tube injections (G, GJ) and drain assessments
  • Barium enemas, defecography
  • GU procedures (cystogram, VCUG, hysterosalpingogram, fistulogram, etc.)

Conduct patient assessments including focused history and physical exams prior to procedures and during follow-up.
Assess prior imaging studies.
Provide telephone triage and evaluate case appropriateness for procedures.
Write pre- and post-procedure notes, orders, dictate orders, and perform appropriate documentation in the EMR.
Assign standardized protocols and contrast material for fluoroscopic exams.
Perform patient assessment prior to administration of moderate/conscious sedation.
Provide patient education for post-procedure care, including tube management.
Support resident and fellow education in diagnostic fluoroscopic procedures.
Collaborate with nursing and clinical teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
Assist in quality improvement initiatives and development of procedural metrics.
Support operational workflows including scheduling coordination and equipment/inventory management.
Participate in clinical research initiatives as applicable.
Other duties as assigned by the GI and faculty leadership.

Required Qualifications*
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License
  • DEA registration
  • AHA Approved BLS
  • ACLS
  • 2+ years experience in Radiology

  • 2 years PA experience in GI Radiology
  • Experience with Radiology Fluoroscopic equipment.
  • Experience in gastrointestinal or abdominal imaging.
  • Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic medical center environment.
  • Exposure to quality improvement, patient safety, or workflow optimization initiatives

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Primarily day shift with coverage based at University Hospital (UH) and BCSC. This position may float to other sites if the need arises.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine (UPAMM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
