Full Job Description
Position Profile:

The Physician Assistant is a member of a team of Medical Clinic providers offering primary care services to our patients. He/she provides the full scope of primary care services, which fall under his/her, field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance. The PA is also a member of the greater Bread for the City team and furthers the Bread for the City mission in his/her daily work with clients and other staff. He/she works collaboratively within the Medical Clinic and across program areas toward the goals and objectives of the organization. The Chief Medical Officer provides guidance and direction to the PA and is responsible for completing an annual performance review of the PA

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Provides Bread for the City patients with primary care services within his/her field of training
  • Supports BFC's vision, mission, and goals in daily interactions with patients;
  • Obtains patient health histories and perform physical examinations;
  • Diagnoses, treat, and provide preventative care to all patients, and provide referrals where appropriate;
  • Reviews incoming reports (e.g. lab, x-ray, EKG) and follow-up in a timely manner.

2. Collaborates with a team of providers to ensure effective coordinated care for all patients and enable the continuous improvement of the Medical Clinic
  • Supervises students in training as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer;
  • Complies with the Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions and ensures compliance by support staff;
  • Participates in peer review, Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance committee meetings, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings;
  • Provides support to other clinical staff as part of a team approach to provide quality care to patients;
  • Provides input and collaboration in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and policy/procedure creation.

3. Assists with organization-wide efforts and participates as a member of the Bread for the City team:
  • Contributes to organization-wide projects and initiatives;
  • Actively participates in all-staff meetings and retreats;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • BSN from an accredited School of Nursing;
  • Certified by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
  • Demonstrated commitment to working for and with low-income people;
  • Current D.C. license;
  • Current D.E.A certificate;
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR);
  • Spanish language skills strongly preferred;
  • Ability to learn new analytical tools;
  • Excellent people skills and ability to work with a diverse staff and clients;
  • Must be a team player;
  • Ability to work with volunteers in a professional and collaborative manner;
  • Familiarity with Google Organization & Productivity Tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar) and/or ability to learn new technology systems;
  • Willingness to learn and carry out Bread for the City's commitments to social justice and racial equity;
  • Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19.
