Physician Assistant

Position Summary/Responsibilities

The Physician Assistant is responsible for psychiatric assessment and treatment to adults. They provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to BRBH clients in collaboration with a licensed psychiatrist in a practice agreement. Responsibilities include:

  • obtaining health/mental health history
  • performing examinations
  • determining the plan of care
  • conducting specialized screenings as appropriate
  • ordering and interpreting lab work and/or specialized diagnostic procedures
  • prescribing medications and calculating drug dosages
  • monitoring treatment and referring as appropriate
  • counseling client on individual plan of care
  • encouraging compliance with treatment
  • maintaining and updating electronic medical record

Hiring Range:

The anticipated base salary for this position is $125,000 to $145,000. Actual compensation offered within this range will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities), geographic location, complexity of role, and other relevant business considerations. Additional compensation is available for Fellowships, Resident supervision, and Advanced Practice Provider Collaborative Agreements. We kindly ask that candidates do not discuss compensation until after an offer of employment is extended.

Requirements

  • Education: Completion of an accredited physician assistant program and certification exam.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer/software skills, including the use of voice recognition software.
    • Clinical proficiency in the treatment of psychiatric illness and co-occurring disorders.
    • Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with those with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
    • Knowledge of medical record documentation and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
    • Professional and personal maturity and judgment to operate collegially and collaboratively.
  • Experience: Two (2) years providing treatment to those with psychiatric illnesses and co-occurring disorders; knowledge of related psychopharmacology.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Background Check: Fingerprints, State and FBI criminal record reports, drug test, and central registry report will be required upon selection.

Special Work Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations and in group settings. Must also be able to communicate effectively in writing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will most often sit, stand, and walk. Occasional bending, stooping or climbing stairs will be necessary. Use of hands is necessary for keyboarding and placing or pulling objects. The employee occasionally lifts and carries up to 10 pounds, or may push or pull up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (visual assessments and computer work). Specific hearing required by this job includes normal tones. Travel of less than 5% required. Almost all travel is local. These functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
