This position requires an active Public Trust/NACI clearance or the ability to obtain a Public Trust/NACI clearance to be considered.

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen.

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Physician (MD/DO) to serve as a Medical Examiner supporting military health and readiness operations. This role requires a current, unrestricted medical license and significant experience conducting physical examinations, evaluating medical documentation, and applying accession medical standards for U.S. military applicants. This position entails working within a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and demands a high level of clinical expertise, familiarity with the MHS Genesis electronic health record system, and a commitment to maintaining the dignity and confidentiality of all applicants. Prior experience in a federal or military healthcare environment is highly preferred. Public Trust/NACI clearance is required.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Physician: Pay commensurate with experience.

Physician Responsibilities Include:
  • Perform detailed medical histories and physical examinations on applicants to determine fitness for military service in accordance with U.S. Armed Forces standards.
  • Evaluate medical documentation, diagnostic results, and consult reports to render professional medical opinions on applicant eligibility.
  • Apply Department of Defense (DoD) accession medical standards and recommend additional evaluations or waivers as necessary.
  • Conduct mental health screenings and evaluate psychological readiness as part of the overall fitness assessment.
  • Document all findings accurately in MHS Genesis and maintain compliance with military health recordkeeping protocols.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations throughout the medical assessment process.
  • Participate in peer reviews and quality improvement initiatives within the MEPS medical department.
  • Promote applicant dignity and provide respectful, professional service in accordance with the "Red Carpet Treatment" philosophy.
  • Comply with all relevant installation policies, procedures, and DoD regulations.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the medical team, ensuring a high standard of care and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer or site leadership.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Physician Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • MD/DO degree from an LCME or COCA accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency program or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Current, unrestricted physician license from any of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • At least one (1) year of post-graduate clinical experience or direct patient care within the last three years.
  • Strong knowledge of military medical standards and ability to assess applicants based on these criteria.
  • Proficiency in using the MHS Genesis system to document and manage medical histories, physical exams, and consultations.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, particularly in a military or government health system, is highly preferred.
  • Ability to conduct thorough health histories, physical examinations, and mental health screenings.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex medical cases and provide clear medical opinions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with military personnel and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Experience working in a MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) setting, ensuring familiarity with military medical standards and the operational procedures in such environments.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications for relevant government clearance and health standards.
  • Completion of an accredited residency program (ACGME or AOA).
  • Current and unrestricted physician license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, required.
  • Experience in performing medical evaluations, including mental health screenings, and providing medical opinions in compliance with military standards.
  • Familiarity with MHS Genesis electronic health record system required.
  • Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands for documentation.
  • Occasional walking, standing, kneeling, bending, or lifting (up to 25 lbs).
  • Visual acuity for close work and detailed health assessments.
  • Primary work setting is a temperature-controlled office environment with exposure to standard office and medical equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather, chemical agents, or high noise levels may occur in operational or field settings.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
