Full Job Description

Vultr is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physical Security Design Engineer to own the technical design, integration, expansion and ongoing engineering support of physical security systems across new data center builds, major upgrades, and the existing site fleet. The ideal candidate is fluent in floor plans, life safety, NFPA, NEC codes, and enterprise access control and video platforms, with working knowledge of compliance frameworks (i.e. SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53 PE controls) and IT/network integration. This is a highly visible role in a high-growth technology company, which will require close, day-to-day coordination with architects, general contractors, PMs/TPMs, integrators, IT, procurement, physical security, and SOC/operations teams across a fast-growing global data center portfolio. This is your opportunity to join our fast growing team and leave your mark on Vultr and the future of Cloud Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, and produce security design sets for access control, video management/CCTV, intrusion detection/alarm, intercom, and perimeter protection systems: device placement on floor plans, coverage analysis, and cabling/conduit and power requirements.
  • Develop system architecture, engineering drawings, network diagrams, and technical requirements/specifications; create, edit, review, and proof design and engineering drawing package components - plans, details, diagrams, schedules, and programming matrices.
  • Author and enforce security standards, specifications; coordinate with architects, general contractors, and integrators.
  • Verify designs against VLTR standards, compliance controls, and applicable industry/regulatory requirements; own the design-review gate and sign-off.
  • Ensure integration with the existing and planned the Physical Security roadmap on every design; support integration of physical security platforms with IT infrastructure, identity management systems, and SOC tools, including API-based integrations, databases, and middleware.
  • Conduct technical analysis supporting design decisions - cable distance/voltage-drop, conduit and cable-fill sizing, camera coverage/pixel-on-target, and systems cost estimation.
  • Conduct product research, technology evaluation, and ongoing technical education on physical security systems, equipment, and related infrastructure technologies; recommend improvements or upgrades.
  • Research and resolve technical issues related to codes, standards, and regulations applicable to physical security systems.
  • Support system configuration, testing, commissioning, and acceptance testing; confirm proper function, performance, and compliance against design documentation and applicable standards; review vendor designs and statements of work (SOWs).
  • Conduct pre-handover inspection and installation QA against approved design and standards.
  • Provide technical support for physical security systems post-handover, including system tuning, health monitoring, and root-cause analysis; support incident response, investigations, and forensic video review when required.
  • Participate in security risk assessments and audits; contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning for physical security systems.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, SOPs, and runbooks to support ongoing operations and knowledge transfer.
  • Travel Required 30-40% of the time

Qualifications
  • 5+ years in physical security systems design/engineering (access control, video/CCTV, intrusion detection, perimeter protection).
  • Strong understanding of door hardware and the integration of such devices into the physical security systems (electrified exit devices/trim, strikes, magnetic locks)
  • Fluent in floor plans, hands-on experience with Genetec required, with additional platforms such as Lenel OnGuard, C3 CURE, or AMAG (access control) and Milestone or Avigilon (video) a plus.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE), server infrastructure (Windows/Linux), and databases/system integrations sufficient to support IT and SOC-tool integrations.
  • Working knowledge of compliance controls, data center environments, and cybersecurity principles as they relate to physical security systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Security Systems, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical-study skills (cable/voltage-drop, NVR sizing, conduit sizing, camera coverage calculations, root-cause analysis).
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, the Google Suite;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; comfortable handling sensitive security information and presenting design information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred: experience supporting global or multi-site security environments; familiarity with cloud-hosted or hybrid security platforms; experience supporting 24/7 SOC operations.
  • Preferred: Experience in CAD/BIM platforms (Revit)
  • Preferred certifications: PSP (Physical Security Professional), NICET SSI, manufacturer certifications (Lenel, Genetec, Avigilon, Milestone), or relevant networking/IT certifications (e.g., Network+, CCNA).

Compensation

$90,000 - $10,000

Final compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.
