In this role, you will lead and support physical security efforts across all DMV, Ferry, and Rail facilities statewide. You'll conduct on-site surveys, inspections, and detailed vulnerability assessments to identify risks such as unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, workplace violence, and other security threats. Your professional recommendations will help guide leadership and Police Services in making informed, proactive safety decisions.

What You'll Do:
• Conduct physical security surveys, inspections, and vulnerability assessments across diverse transportation facilities.
• Identify risks and recommend effective mitigation strategies to leadership and Police Services.
• Oversee access control systems, CCTV, intrusion alarms, panic hardware, and other essential security technologies.
• Coordinate with contractors, IT, facilities staff, and law enforcement partners to ensure systems meet standards and operate reliably.
• Perform security audits and compliance reviews; document findings; recommend corrective actions to maintain compliance with federal, state, and agency requirements.
• Develop and maintain clear, consistent security policies, procedures, training materials, and reports.
• Provide security and emergency response training to employees.
• Collaborate closely with law enforcement, emergency management, internal stakeholders, and contractors on daily security operations and preparedness efforts.
• Support COOP planning, incident response, and continuity of critical services.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires a valid driver's license and involves regular business-related travel. You may be asked to drive a company or personal vehicle to conduct security duties, visit multiple work sites, attend meetings or training sessions, pick up or drop off documents or equipment, or complete other off site operational tasks.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC 19; $67,122-$117,465

Management prefers applicants with the following:
  • Knowledge of physical security principles, practices, and standards, including conducting facility security assessments, vulnerability analyses, and risk evaluations for government or large organizational environments.
  • Skill in designing, implementing, and managing physical security systems and countermeasures such as access control, intrusion detection, CCTV/video surveillance, panic/duress systems, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage security-related projects, monitor implementation progress, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Experience preparing and delivering security-related communications, including training materials, guidance documents, and security awareness resources, and collaborating effectively with leadership, contractors, and law enforcement partners.
  • Working experience analyzing security risks, evaluating mitigation strategies, recommending practical solutions, and applying sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential security information.

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
