Now hiring: Physical Education Teacher, Prep
Employment Terms: Full-Time, Permanent
Start date: August 2026
We are currently seeking a Physical Education Teacher, Prep who will provide differentiated classroom support, co-teaching, individual & small group instruction. The Prep Phys. Ed Teacher will also deliver courses/co curricular programming and related grading, reporting, and parent/student communication. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with administration, parents, teachers, and students is essential.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Course/Co-Curricular Delivery
• Deliver applicable and relevant course content in an age-appropriate and pedagogically sound manner
• Provide timely and accurate assessment of student work
• Write a thorough set of personalized report/co curricular comments for the two reporting periods
• Conduct informative parent conferences based on thorough teacher observations and relevant teacher-reported data
Support Student Learning
• Provide individual, small group, and whole class instruction to support student learning as directed
• Address student social-emotional needs and promote a positive learning environment
• Collaboratively plan with colleagues to ensure effective instruction and learning experiences
• Assist with operational tasks such as marking, preparing materials, and organizing equipment
Classroom Management and Administrative Support
• Contribute to classroom management and enforce discipline as needed
• Perform supervisory duties during break times and transitions
• Provide coverage for classroom teachers when they are absent
• Assist with organizing and supervising field trips.
• Assist with parent information evenings, special events, and other school activities
Collaborative Engagement and Professional Development
• Participate in faculty and team meetings, assemblies, and professional development opportunities.
• Coach athletics and/or lead co-curricular arts, activities, or clubs.
• Participate and assist with field trips as part of the Norval program, including overnight excursions and outdoor education activities.
Other duties
• Perform supervisory duties
• Coverage for classroom teachers, as needed
Job Requirements
Experience, Knowledge and Competencies
• A B.Ed. and completion of a B.A. or B.Sc. degree in physical education or equivalent AQ qualifications;
• Teaching certificate issued by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or enrollment in a recognized teacher education program preferred;
• 1-3 years of experience working in a physical education or closely related setting;
• Previous experience with lesson planning and curriculum development is an asset;
• Experience with leading a co curricular program in the realm of athletics, student leadership and/or clubs is an asset;
• Experience in the teaching of literacy and special education is beneficial;
• Experience in equity, diversity, pluralism, and inclusion;
• Familiarity with the Ontario physical education curriculum and relevant subject areas;
• Knowledge of Google Drive, Google Docs and Gmail an asset;
• Basic understanding of educational theories, teaching methods, and instructional strategies;
• Basic understanding of assessment and evaluation practices to measure student progress;
• Basic understanding of diverse learning needs and the ability to differentiate instruction accordingly;
• Basic knowledge of the International Baccalaureate - Primary Years Program and Middle Years Program is beneficial;
• Basic knowledge of classroom management techniques to maintain an effective and positive learning environment;
• Awareness of educational technology tools and their integration into the classroom;
• Understanding of relevant legislation and policies, such as the Education Act and the Ontario College of Teachers' Ethical Standards;
• Knowledge of classroom management techniques to maintain an effective and positive learning environment;
• Ability to analyze student learning needs and adjust teaching strategies accordingly;
• Problem-solving skills to address challenges in student behaviour, academic performance, and classroom dynamics;
• Adaptability to changing circumstances and the ability to identify and implement effective solutions;
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, teachers, parents, and other educational professionals;
• Ability to convey information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
• Active listening skills to understand student and colleague concerns and provide appropriate support;
• Understanding of educational policies, procedures, and administrative processes;
• Ability to assist with administrative tasks, such as record-keeping, grading, and organizing materials and equipment;
• Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems;
• May involve assisting students with physical activities or mobility needs;
• Setting up PE equipment and classroom environment;
• Work is primarily conducted in a gym or field setting;
• Regular interaction with students, teachers, and parents.

This job is for an existing vacancy. This position follows the faculty salary grid, which is determined by qualifications and years of teaching experience. The hiring range for this role is $77,221 to $121,547, with final placement based on qualifications and years of teaching experience.
