Position Summary

The Bloomberg Project Director serves as the strategic and operational lead for Morehouse School of Medicine's participation in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Historically Black Medical Schools (HBMS) Endowment Program.

This role provides holistic oversight of program implementation, coordination, reporting, and compliance, ensuring that all components of the Bloomberg investment are executed effectively and aligned with institutional priorities.

While this position does not manage the endowment directly, the Director works in close partnership with Finance and the Endowment Accountant to support reporting, tracking, and stewardship related to endowment performance, annual drawdown, and program utilization.

The Director will coordinate across key institutional areas-including Finance, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Institutional Advancement-to ensure seamless execution of all program components, including scholarship distribution, loan repayment, wrap-around services, and capacity-building initiatives.

This position plays a critical leadership role in stewarding one of the most transformative philanthropic investments in MSM's history.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as the central point of coordination for all aspects of the Bloomberg HBMS Endowment Program at MSM
  • Lead development and execution of annual program plans, budgets, and implementation strategies
  • Ensure alignment between Bloomberg program goals and MSM's mission of advancing health equity

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Convene and manage a cross-campus working group (Finance, Financial Aid, Advancement, Dean's Office, Student Affairs)
  • Ensure effective collaboration across units responsible for:
    • Scholarship allocation
    • Loan repayment
    • Student services
    • Program reporting and compliance


Financial Oversight & Coordination (Non-Investment)
  • Partner closely with Finance and the Endowment Accountant to:
    • Monitor annual endowment drawdowns and utilization
    • Track program-related expenditures and allocations
    • Ensure appropriate alignment between financial activity and program intent
    • Support financial planning tied to student support and program sustainability


Reporting, Compliance & Stewardship
  • Lead preparation of all required reports to Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Greenwood Initiative team
  • Ensure compliance with all grant agreements, reporting timelines, and program expectations
  • Develop internal dashboards and tracking tools for:
    • Student impact
    • Financial utilization
    • Program outcomes
    • Support executive leadership, board updates, and donor stewardship materials


Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
  • Oversee data collection and evaluation efforts, including:
    • Student outcomes (academic progression, residency placement, etc.)
    • Effectiveness of wrap-around services
    • Identify opportunities to enhance program delivery, efficiency, and long-term impact

External Engagement & Representation
  • Serve as a primary liaison to Bloomberg Philanthropies and Greenwood Initiative leadership
  • Represent MSM in HBMS convenings, collaborative initiatives, and working groups
  • Ensure MSM is positioned as a strong, accountable, and mission-aligned partner
