Salary Range: $40.12 - 52.53 + applicable differentials

Summary of Duties: Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in maintaining medication inventory, preparing and distributing medications, maintaining patient records and adhering to pharmacy regulations. Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, performing only those functions permitted by the California State Board of Pharmacy and any function requiring professional judgment is referred to a pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician follows established policies and procedures; receives, reviews, sorts and processes drug and supply orders; processes inpatient and outpatient medication orders; prepares sterile products, including parenteral nutrition and hazardous drug admixtures, in accordance with USP and USP ; refills automated dispensing cabinets; delivers medications to nursing areas and restocks the medication carousel; and performs billing, record-keeping, telephone, and filing duties. Interviews patients to collect medication histories in support of medication reconciliation, as permitted by law and hospital protocol. In addition to performing the essential functions listed below, may also be assigned other duties as required. Good knowledge of computer system, IV admixing, barcoding, inventory management and Pyxis. Other duties as required. Knowledge of 340B is a plus, as well as retail pharmacy & prior auth.

Educational Requirements
  • Mandatory high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • CPhT or Pharm Intern.

Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • California State Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration and Pharmacy Technician National Certification (CPhT),
  • OR enrollment in a PharmD program with Pharmacy Intern license
  • Maintained in active status with California Board of Pharmacy (BoP) and available for primary source verification.

Experience Requirements
  • Have at least 3 months of inpatient hospital experience, either through training during a BoP approved Pharmacy Technician program or prior hospital experience; prefer inpatient hospital experience or 340B experience.
  • IV skills, barcode, buyer and 340B experience are preferred.
  • Prefer (not required): prior experience in: sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications, familiar with USP 797 and 800, experience with automated dispensing cabinets, medication carousels, barcode-assisted workflows, hospital electronic health record and good communication skills

Special Skills or Abilities
  • Good computer skills and able to maintain databases.
  • Good communication skills and able to work all shifts.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including night shift.
