General Description
The People Business Partner is a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, helping build high-performing teams, develop strong managers, driving People programs and foster an engaging, inclusive workplace. This role partners closely with the business on talent, performance, employee relations, coaching, and organizational effectiveness while translating business needs into practical people solutions. In a fast-moving and scaling environment, you'll balance strategic partnership with hands-on execution, helping shape our culture and equip leaders to successfully navigate growth and change.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders to drive organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, and talent strategy.
- Coach managers on leadership, performance management, employee development, feedback, and difficult conversations.
- Advise leaders on employee relations matters, balancing employee experience, business needs, and risk management.
- Conduct workplace investigations and guide appropriate resolutions in partnership with leadership.
- Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, performance improvement plans, and corrective action.
- Support organizational change initiatives, team effectiveness, and organizational design as the business grows.
- Partner with hiring managers to attract, interview, and hire top talent for assigned functions.
- Manage onboarding to help new employees successfully integrate into the organization and offboarding to ensure smooth transitions.
- Design, build, and continuously improve People programs and initiatives that strengthen leadership, enhance the employee experience, and support organizational growth.
- Champion employee engagement, recognition, and culture-building initiatives that reinforce company values.
- Identify talent development, succession planning, and career growth opportunities in partnership with leaders.
- Partner with the People Operations Manager on policy development, compliance, and People programs.
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional People initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
What You'll Bring:
- 5-7+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in CPG, including experience partnering directly with managers.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certification preferred.
- Demonstrated success coaching managers and resolving complex employee relations matters with sound judgment and discretion.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proven ability to influence leaders, build trusted relationships, and drive organizational outcomes.
- Experience leading performance management, talent development, organizational change, and workforce planning initiatives.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to navigate difficult conversations confidently.
- Highly self-directed with exceptional judgment, prioritization, and follow-through in a dynamic environment.
- Maintains the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Experience supporting both hourly and salaried workforces, preferably in manufacturing, food production, distribution, or other operational environments.
- Experience in a high-growth, entrepreneurial organization preferred.
- Experience with HRIS platforms such as BambooHR or similar systems.
- Experience using workforce data and HR metrics to inform decisions preferred.
- English/Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.
Work Environment
- The work environment can vary from office settings to production, potentially exposing employees to noise and other environmental factors.
- Lift objects to 30 lbs.
- 4 days a week in San Leandro; occasional travel to Oakland facility
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $115,000 - $135,000 for California-based roles. Base pay offered will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's experience, skills, job-related knowledge, and market location.
