The OpportunityAs a People Business Partner, you will play a key role in delivering consistent people practices, managing employee relations matters, and ensuring effective execution of core People programs. In this role, you will apply strong HR expertise, sound judgment, and a service-oriented approach to support day-to-day people needs, promote employee engagement, and ensure alignment with organizational policies and values. You will work collaboratively with managers, Discipline Group Leaders, People Partners, and Centres of Expertise (COEs) to deliver reliable, compliant, and employee-focused People solutions to discipline-based client groups across Canada, US, and Colombia. Locally, Arup works on projects like the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, GO Rail Expansion, Alto High-Speed Rail Network, TramCité and the Alexandra Bridge Replacement.
Responsibilities/ Accountabilities: - Coach, counsel and provide sound guidance to managers and leaders on performance management, employee development, and employee engagement matters
- Develop meaningful partnerships with managers and staff through consultation on People practices
- Provide advisory support to managers to help them to optimally deliver feedback, have development conversations and manage overall performance
- Manage the delivery and coordination of annual activities such as performance appraisals, promotions, and salary review process
- Conduct exit interviews and coordinate overall exit process with People Services team
- Collaborate with colleagues in global COEs and provide guidance on Canadian best practices to deliver seamless client service
- Present information on People programs at all staff meetings
- Work with cross functional teams and connect regularly with peers to drive consistent practices and drive quality outcomes
- Create and use People analytics to identify trends, provide actionable insights, and support evidence-based decision-making
- Lead and support employee wellbeing and contribute towards a healthy work culture that enhances Arup's people experience
- Be an active member and/or lead People Team projects independently or in a team as part of your growth and development

- Work closely with People Business Partners to ensure appropriate escalation and awareness of complex or high-risk people issues within the business

Is this role right for you?- 8 or more years of progressive, dynamic HR experience, including at least three years in a Generalist or People Partner role
- Experience working in a consultative manner within a matrixed organization, including in evolving environments
- Solid understanding of policies, practices, employment and employee relations frameworks and the ability to use sound judgment and discretion in their application
- Experience leading complex employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution in partnership with People Business Partners and relevant stakeholders
- Successful record of building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients and ability to reach agreements which balance the goals and interests of leaders, staff and Arup
- Ability to build relationships across geographies quickly both face to face and virtually (over the phone, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization
- Working knowledge of employment legislation across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia, and the ability to apply requirements to workplace situations using sound judgment and research as needed.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements including AODA
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, Psychology or related field
- CHRP, CHRL, or equivalent professional HR designation is preferred
- Flexibility to travel to offices within Canada and the US as needed

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is 115,000 to 140,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
