Overview

Please note that this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid.

Summary:

The PCR Core Lab Technical Manager leads PCR and qPCR-based research, ensuring quality, throughput, and regulatory compliance in molecular diagnostic workflows. Oversees PCR laboratory operations supporting diagnostics, surveillance, and R&D of biological threat agents.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise PCR workflow execution and staff training.
  • Maintain assay performance and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Ensure quality assurance and documentation of protocols.
  • Coordinate with internal research teams for sample testing.
  • Manage supplies, biospecimens, and instrumentation maintenance.
  • Performs laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other tasks in fields such as aerobiology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, molecular or cell biology, veterinary medicine, toxicology, or other scientific discipline.
  • Plans and accomplish goals, participates in or leading development of research work plans, proposals, budgets, and agreements.
  • May function as a study Lead Investigator.
  • Independently reads, understands, and executes techniques, procedures, and plans to meet requirements of quality standards, national standards of research technical accuracy, other relevant written guidelines, and timelines prescribed by the research plan and based on professional judgment.
  • Records all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses, and analytical conclusions of analyses in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Performs a variety of scientific and administrative tasks. Provides training and mentorship to junior staff.
  • May participate in support of laboratory biosafety requirements and laboratory space management, in coordination with director, Investigators, or other relevant staff.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced PCR/qPCR knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with automated nucleic acid extraction systems.
  • Leadership and team coordination abilities.
  • Specialized skills may be required, including but not limited to, aerobiology, clinical pathology, electron or confocal microscopy, histopathology, quality assurance, and good laboratory practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or biotechnology.
  • 5+ years in PCR-based lab environments, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in high-throughput diagnostics.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required.
  • Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACTIVE SECRET is preferred
  • Master's degree preferred

Pay and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
