Full Job Description
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll leverage your strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling and associated processes, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, and specifications. You will oversee manufacturing and installation processes, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations-- and you'll coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects, identifying sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve technical issues. Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in hardware/mechanism design and development of vacuum systems, vacuum chambers, vacuum isolation technologies, and support equipment. Preferred experience in the semiconductor manufacturing capital equipment space with knowledge of semiconductor fabrication physics, processes, & materials. Ability to work independently, receiving guidance in only moderately complex situations. May lead small integrated development teams or projects. Role Responsibilities: • Interpret system level customer and functional requirements to define, design, & develop cost effective hardware solutions. • Lead, develop, and execute moderately complex design projects having a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, physics, control systems, and software design, which are leading edge of system functionality or technology. • Interface with multiple design and manufacturing engineering disciplines to specify, design, develop and commercialize semiconductor manufacturing capital equipment. • Research and development of new technologies. Work with Design Team, Marketing, & Legal to insure proposed solutions meets market requirements, is differentiated and sustainable. • Lead small design teams of designers, drafters, controls & electrical engineers to design and develop automation hardware solutions. • Own and execute the detailed design of vacuum system components, modules, & systems. • Problem identification and troubleshooting significantly complex engineering problems, which are on leading edge of technology or system functionality. • Support System Integration & Manufacturing during the assembly and final testing of new product designs. • Work with vendors to develop new competitive products and takes business issues into consideration. • Provide remote and onsite support to field support personnel as required. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree • 4-7 years of experience • Demonstrated experience with CAD software, thermodynamics, sheet metal design, material selection, manufacturing methods, GD&T, flow analysis and/or • Design for Excellence principle Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of the Applied Materials product life cycle, including prototyping, packaging, material selection and manufacturing methods Additional Information Time Type: Full time Employee Type: Assignee / Regular Travel: Yes, 10% of the Time Relocation Eligible: Yes The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable. For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
