Payroll Specialist (Canada), Metrotown, British ColumbiaAs a Payroll Specialist youwill ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, primarily for Canadianemployees in British Columbia, while complying with labour laws, employeehandbooks, and collective bargaining agreements and managing data and time acrossthe employee life cycle. The assigned portfolio for this role will beoperations in BC, and the successful candidate may be embedded in one of ourSouthern Interior mill locations or based at our corporate office in Burnaby,BC.

Highlights of the Role- Payroll Processing: Accurately manage full-cycle payroll for assigned companies/locations, including audits, reconciliations, and year-end tax forms.
- Time & Attendance Management: Support the collection, validation, and reconciliation of time data, ensuring accuracy and alignment with payroll timelines. Partner with operations to resolve discrepancies and strengthen timekeeping controls.
- Data Management: Handle employee life cycle data (hires, terminations, changes, leaves) and ensure seamless payroll integration.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain SOPs, payroll tools, and ensure compliance with labour laws and privacy regulations.
- Labour Relations & Field Partnership: Apply collective bargaining agreements, employee handbooks, and pay policies in practice, working directly with sites and union environments to resolve issues and ensure payroll reflects actual work performed.
- Customer Service: Respond to employee pay inquiries and collaborate with HR and Finance to resolve payroll issues.
- System & Process Improvement: Support payroll system maintenance, identify efficiency opportunities, participate in testing and contribute to system enhancements.
- Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment, sharing knowledge and supporting peers to ensure consistent and accurate payroll delivery.
What You Bring to the Role- Experience: At least two years of full-cycle payroll experience with salaried and hourly employees; manufacturing experience is an asset; unionized experience required.
- Education: Diploma or degree in accounting, payroll, or business administration, or equivalent experience.
- Certifications: PCP or CPM certification is an asset but not mandatory.
- Systems: Experience with payroll and time and attendance systems required; familiarity with ADP Workforce Now and UKGPro & Workforce Management preferred.
