Full Job Description
About the Role

As Payroll & Benefits Manager, you'll own the full payroll and benefits function at KEV - the engine that keeps our team paid accurately and on time, and ensures our total rewards programs are competitive, compliant, and meaningful. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes personal pride in getting every number right, but who also thinks strategically about how payroll and benefits programs support talent retention and business growth.

You'll be the go-to expert for all things payroll and benefits across our Canadian and US employee populations, working closely with People & Culture, Finance, and our leadership team to build scalable, compliant, and people-first programs. If you thrive at the intersection of precision and process - and want your work to directly support a mission-driven company - this is the role for you.

The base salary range for this role is 85,000-100,000 CAD. This range reflects expected compensation at the time of posting. Final offers may vary based on skills, experience, location, and internal equity. Total compensation may also include bonus and benefits.
How You'll Contribute
  • Own end-to-end payroll processing for KEV's Canadian and US employee populations - full-cycle, multi-jurisdiction, on time and error-free
  • Manage all benefits administration: enrollment, renewals, vendor relationships, employee inquiries, and claims escalation
  • Lead annual benefits renewals - benchmarking, carrier negotiations, and internal communications - in partnership with the VP, People & Culture
  • Ensure compliance across payroll legislation, tax filings, and reporting obligations in all operating jurisdictions (including ROEs, T4s, W-2s)
  • Build and maintain payroll and benefits policies, documentation, and process guides that scale as KEV grows
  • Partner with Finance on payroll reconciliation, accruals, and reporting to support month-end close and annual audit requirements
  • Serve as the primary employee resource for payroll and benefits questions - timely, clear, and empathetic responses every time
  • Identify and champion improvements to payroll systems, workflows, and data integrity - automating where possible, reducing manual touchpoints
  • Support People & Culture initiatives including compensation reviews, total rewards communications, and HRIS data management

Who You Are
  • 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience in a multi-jurisdiction Canadian environment; US payroll experience a significant asset
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or equivalent; CPM or active pursuit is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience managing group benefits programs end-to-end - renewal cycles, carrier management, and employee education
  • Deep fluency in payroll legislation, tax compliance, and employment standards across Canada; US federal/state knowledge a plus
  • Proficient with a major payroll platform (Rippling and Stirling preferred, but experience in Ceridian Dayforce, ADP Workforce Now, or equivalent works as well) and confident in HRIS data management
  • Exceptional attention to detail - you catch discrepancies before they become problems
  • Clear, empathetic communicator who can explain complex payroll or benefits concepts to any audience without the jargon
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, growth-stage company where processes are still being built (not just inherited)
  • High integrity - you understand that handling payroll data means handling people's livelihoods, and you take that seriously

What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation - We believe in rewarding great work with fair, competitive pay.
  • Meaningful benefits- Because your well-being matters; both at work and at home.
  • Retirement Savings Support - We help you plan for your future with company-matched programs, including RRSP matching in Canada and 401(k) contributions in the U.S.
  • Professional development - We invest in your growth with ongoing learning, stretch opportunities, and continuing education, including KEV Academy for onboarding and skill-building, plus KEV University, our online platform offering a wide range of courses.
  • Hybrid model - 3 days in the office to collaborate and connect, with flexibility the rest of the week.
  • Flexible PTO - Take the time you need to recharge with close to 4 weeks of vacation and a company-wide holiday closure
  • Office perks - Enjoy a fully stocked snack bar and occasional catered lunches-because we know that great conversations (and ideas) often start around good food.
