What Success Looks Like In This JobUnder direction, leads, oversees, and participates in the work of staff responsible for the maintenance of Adams County parks, facilities, trails, and open spaces, including: cleaning, plumbing, welding, painting, glazing, and electrical, irrigation, general landscape maintenance, carpentry, forestry and weed/pest control; and to provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Parks Supervisor.
The anticipated hiring range for this role is $72,759.78 - $83,673.75. The full salary range for the role is $72,759.78 - $101,863.78. Examples of Duties for Success - Lead, plan, train, and review the work of staff responsible for providing sanitation, maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of Parks, Open Space and Cultural Arts facilities.
- Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; order materials as necessary and ensure materials ordered are received in a timely fashion.
- Maintain records and prepare various reports regarding incidents, accidents, work schedules, and employee time records.
- Train assigned employees in the areas of work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Verify work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Serve as acting supervisor in the Supervisor's absence.
- Perform the full range of landscape and trail maintenance duties.
- Participate in budget preparations and monitoring.
- Perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of the irrigation system; change and adjust heads; maintain controllers; assist in irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.
- Assist in the set-up and removal of equipment needed for special events.
- Inspect park facilities and amenities including removal of debris, identification of safety hazards, graffiti removal, parking lot repairs, and snow removal.
- Assist in the setup and operations of the Adams County Fair.
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as, individually.
- Assists in the development of park standard operations and best management practices.
- Checks work of subordinate work unit to enforce division standards regarding quality and quantity of work and safety regulations and procedures.
- Assists in the development of bid specifications for ongoing maintenance and/or construction projects.
- Operate the full range of construction equipment as necessary.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success - Operations, services, and activities of grounds, trail, and parks maintenance program(s).
- Principles of lead supervision and training, record keeping, and reporting.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Basic budgeting principles and practices.
- Chemical pesticides and herbicides and their proper use.
- County policies, procedures, and codes related to grounds maintenance.
- Operate and maintain the full range of mechanical and chemical parks equipment.
- Lead, organize, and review the work of maintenance staff.
- Perform facility cleaning, maintenance, and repair work independently.
- Forestry principles, practices and their application.
- Irrigation systems, including installation, troubleshooting and repair.
- Recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding parks maintenance and construction.
- Operate single axle and tandem dump trucks.
- Interpret diagrams, plans, and blueprints.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment.
- Perform semi-skilled plumbing, welding, painting, electrical, and carpentry work.
- Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Handle conflict in an appropriate manner.
- Operate basic office equipment including a smart phone, tablet, personal computer and related office software.

- Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in leading teams performing maintenance, and/or repair activities.
- Education and Training: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
- Candidates must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B at the time of interview or within six (6) months of employment.
- Candidates selected for interviews will need to provide a current copy of their motor vehicle record.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an EPA Pesticide Applicator's license is preferred.
- Qualified Supervisors spray license preferred
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector preferred
- Certified Arborist International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification(s) preferred.
Essential duties require the following physical abilities :
The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift and/or move 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
- This position requires frequent exposure to varied weather conditions.
- This position requires exposure to noise, outdoors, confined work spaces, electrical hazards, vibrations, chemicals, dust and mechanical hazards.
Special Requirements:
Availability for on-call and stand-by call.
• This position requires shift work, on-call and nights/weekend shift work.
• Ability to respond during an emergency or during extreme weather events including wind, rain, snow or ice.
• Assist in the preparation and operation of the Adams County Fair and other special events as assigned.
