As a Colgate-Palmolive Packaging Engineer you will be supporting the North America pillar of Oral Care. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of innovative packaging solutions, working collaboratively with the Global and Marketing Divisions, Supply Chain, and Procurement teams. You will also have broad responsibilities in supporting our Manufacturing Operations to drive quality improvements, production efficiencies and cost savings projects. Additionally, you will play a critical role for the technical transfer of projects from Packaging to Operations.
Your Day to Day and the Future- Partner closely with North America (NA) Marketing and Design to bring innovative new products and packaging to the market, meeting brand and business requirements
- Coordinate and execute line trials to ensure package performance across all manufacturing sites, including on-site attendance of component and manufacturing startups (as needed)
- Analyze packaging quality issues, develop root-cause solutions, and drive the implementation of corrective and preventative actions
- Conduct vendor qualifications for new packaging materials, ensuring proper validation and manufacturing efficiency
- Manage the shipment of packaging component samples to cross-functional partners
- Develop packaging designs for new product launches. You will ensure that all solutions meet the CP requirements for Quality, Sustainability, brand equity, consumer experience, and manufacturing execution
- Responsible for Technology Transfer from Package Engineering to Manufacturing Operations to ensure new packaging systems perform as designed and meet operational targets
- Create cost and savings estimates, tooling and package qualification plans, technology transfer documentation (Design History Files) and final package component specifications
- Create component codes, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Manufacturing Specifications, and develop specific case/cube information
- Responsible for meeting timeline commitments, including project planning steps, supplier selection, capital expenditure estimates, and technology transfer associated with projects. Manage flow of packaging related information, and communicate project progress, actual costs, and any associated risks
- Interface with the Innovation teams to identify new and innovative packaging solutions, and work with other cross-functional teams to bring them to life through meticulous planning, design execution, and rigorous testing
- Help identify or execute cost saving opportunities in your area of responsibility, and work towards implementation together with multiple cross-functional collaborators
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's Degree in Package Engineering/Technology/Science or related field- 3+ years Package Development or similar Engineering experience
- Fundamental understanding of printing and decoration techniques for plastics, labels, or paperboard materials
- Knowledge of laminate tubes, PET bottles, paperboard folding cartons, or corrugated shippers
Even better if you have:
Experience working in a complex manufacturing or plant environment, with the ability to operate as a self-starter and communicate effectively with senior leaders and remote team members- Product design and development experience in the CPG field
- Understanding of extrusion blow molding, injection molding, paperboard and corrugated packaging designs.
- Product testing, data collection, data analysis and assessing pass / fail criteria to determine final product approval
- Knowledge of packaging materials and conversion processes, such as extrusion blow molding, injection molding, and exposure to final product filling and assembly
- Experience using Google Suite applications, SAP or other ERP software and/or similar computer systems.
- Experience with CapePack or Tops software for case/cube development
Compensation and BenefitsSalary Range $96,800.00 - $120,000.00 USD
Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
