Full Job Description
The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Packaging Certification Engineer with 5-8 years of experience to support analysis, design, and certification of radioactive and hazardous materials packaging.

This role involves providing technical expertise in packaging design, safety analysis, regulatory compliance, and transportation requirements, ensuring all activities meet applicable federal regulations and industry standards. The ideal candidate will also support quality assurance evaluations, procurement efforts, and development of packaging procedures.

Location: Albuquerque, NM (Hybrid / On-Site as Needed)

Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform and review technical analyses related to radioactive and hazardous materials packaging
  • Support packaging design, evaluation, and certification for transportation projects
  • Establish and evaluate quality assurance (QA) requirements and programs
  • Recommend appropriate packaging solutions for transportation of nuclear materials
  • Support packaging procurement activities
  • Develop and review packaging procedures and documentation
  • Conduct and review Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARP) and confirmatory analyses
  • Evaluate safety and regulatory compliance issues related to packaging and transportation
  • Support or lead technical teams of subject matter experts, as applicable
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical preferred), or
    • Physical Sciences (Chemistry preferred)
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in packaging design and/or certification for transportation of radioactive materials
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations and guidance
    • U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
    • Department of Energy (DOE) regulations, standards, and orders
    • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and applicable national standards
  • Experience with:
    • Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARP)
    • Confirmatory analysis and safety evaluations
  • Knowledge of:
    • Risk management and hazard analysis
    • Integrated safety management principles
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q-Clearance
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting or working with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)
  • Experience leading technical teams or multidisciplinary efforts
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform computer-based work for extended periods
  • Ability to participate in site visits or technical reviews as needed

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $75.00-$125.00 hourly
