Full Job Description
The Outpatient Therapy Manager is responsible for directing the daily operations of at UVA Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy - Fontaine location. The manager provides leadership for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include operational oversight, resource utilization, program development, staff leadership, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, financial stewardship, and implementation of evidence-based clinical practices. As a member of the Rehabilitation Services leadership team, this individual collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and support strategic growth of outpatient neurology rehabilitation services.

  • Direct the daily operations of outpatient rehabilitation services within the clinic at UVA Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy - Fontaine location.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology clinical programs.
  • Ensure efficient patient access, scheduling, staffing, and resource utilization to maximize operational effectiveness and patient satisfaction.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop therapy clinicians and support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Manage staffing plans, productivity, and clinical utilization to meet organizational and departmental goals.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, Joint Commission (TJC), state licensing requirements, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage departmental operating budgets and financial performance.
  • Analyze operational and quality metrics, benchmark performance, and implement process improvements to enhance patient care and efficiency.
  • Lead recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts in collaboration with Human Resources and Rehabilitation leadership.
  • Oversee employee performance management, including coaching, mentoring, annual evaluations, recognition, and corrective action when appropriate.
  • Support staff professional development through continuing education, competency assessment, certification opportunities, and career advancement.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure implementation of evidence-based rehabilitation practices.
  • Collaborate with Neurology providers and interdisciplinary partners to develop and expand outpatient rehabilitation programs that support patients with neurologic conditions.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise departmental policies, procedures, and clinical workflows.
  • Establish, monitor, and achieve departmental goals aligned with organizational strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate departmental meetings and participate in interdisciplinary committees and leadership councils.
  • Promote a culture of safety, service excellence, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with Rehabilitation Services leadership to optimize operations across outpatient therapy locations and ensure consistency in clinical practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Licensure/Certification:

Current Virginia licensure (or eligibility) as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech-Language Pathologist required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, if applicable to clinical practice. Professional specialty certification in neurologic rehabilitation or healthcare leadership is preferred but not required.

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience in outpatient rehabilitation services required. Experience in neurology rehabilitation, neuro-recovery, or outpatient multidisciplinary therapy programs preferred. Demonstrated experience in operational management, financial stewardship, quality improvement, staff development, and program growth. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to lead change, build collaborative relationships, and manage multiple priorities.

COMPENSATION
  • The base salary range for this role is $ 95,000 - 105,000 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience and/or education.
  • Opportunity for additional productivity-based bonus.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology. Prefer Master's Degree or higher in one of the three disciplines
Experience: 3 years of Supervisory Experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
