JOB TITLE: Organizing Campaign Coordinator

GRADE: MGT D1

ANNUAL SALARY: $108,104

LOCATION: All USA

Purpose: The Campaign Coordinator has responsibility for representing and assisting the International Union in carrying out its overall organizing programs and initiatives. The Campaign Coordinator is responsible for developing, executing and coordinating strategic, external organizing campaigns; managing overall field operations; directing and managing the work of campaign staff.

Primary Responsibilities: The Campaign Coordinator will be responsible for:
  • Developing field campaign plans, including aligning field campaign goals, tactics, and timelines with an overall campaign strategy and other campaign components, such as communications, digital, research, legislative, legal, etc.
  • Assisting with the development of campaign plans that effectively integrate relevant, multiple components such as field, digital, community, politics, research, legal and communication.
  • Planning and overseeing execution of field campaign tactics to support achieving overall campaign goals and benchmarks at each phase of the campaign.
  • Directing, managing, and assessing field campaign execution, including assessing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and making strategic recalibrations.
  • Determining relevant campaign-related data to track, creating systems and practices for tracking, reporting and analyzing data.
  • Directing and managing staff by establishing clear campaign structures, roles, responsibilities, standards, and expectations.
  • Creating a team culture of shared vision and purpose, collaboration, inclusion, equity, innovation, respect, and mutual accountability.
  • Creating and implementing team systems for mutual accountability and support, including conducting regular staff meetings, debriefs, training, staff 1:1s, check-ins, etc.
  • Developing and managing systems and processes, including individual work plans, staff development plans, and training opportunities that support the growth and development of staff.
  • Providing regular, intentional feedback and coaching to campaign staff; carrying out disciplinary-related duties, as appropriate.
  • Providing support in recruiting, screening, hiring, and orientation of campaign staff.
  • Working cooperatively with SEIU International Union and Local Union staff to facilitate successful conclusion of campaign goals and benchmarks.
  • Representing the International Union with local union leaders, staff, members, and outside organizations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned in support of the work of the Organizing Department.

Direction and Decision-Making: The Campaign Coordinator reports directly to the Campaign Director and/or other designated Organizing Department and Division directors.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of external labor organizing experience; or a combination of four (4) years external and one (1) year internal labor organizing, and a minimum of three (3) years leading campaigns.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of leading field teams or staff.
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university is not required, but is a plus.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and a second language is preferred.
  • (Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications of experience will not be considered.)

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of labor unions.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning, executing, and managing labor organizing campaigns: external and/or internal.
  • Ability to support the crafting of campaign messaging and materials.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills, including in public settings.
  • Ability to plan and conduct staff 1:1s, debriefs, team meetings, planning meetings, etc.
  • Ability to plan and execute major mobilizations and events, such as strikes, GOTVs, legislative lobby days, etc.
  • Ability to develop and implement systems and processes, including but not limited to, individual work plans, staff development plans, and training, that support the growth and development of staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with SEIU elected leaders and staff in complex and sometimes politically sensitive environments/situations.
  • Ability to apply high level judgment and demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and/or other software systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize digital platforms and tools to support the execution of digital organizing strategies and tactics.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to handle multiple "priority" projects and meet established timelines.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Physical Requirements: Work in this position will generally be performed in a remote setting. However, the job may require work in other settings conducive to performing the tasks required to complete assignments. Must be available for extensive travel, including overnight stays. Travel and work beyond traditional business hours are required.

Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license is required.
