Full Job Description
Overview

The successful candidate will join the Department Accuracy Control & Optical Tool management team at the Groton facility, a dynamic and fast-paced work environment requiring prompt and technically sound dimensional control solutions in shipbuilding.  In this capacity the Supervisor is responsible for the safety, quality, cost and schedule performance of the personnel and the products and services they provide.

 

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervision of a group of up to 12 optical tool technicians and support personnel to perform dimensional control work using laser trackers, photogrammetry, portable Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM), and standard optical tools
  • Assign Optical Tool jobs in close coordination with our Operations partners to ensure that Optical Tool resources are efficiently and accurately deployed to the Groton shipyard.
  • Interact as necessary with other shipyards on shared 3 dimensional data
  • Validating test form requirements, supporting major module/hull alignments, establishing ships lines (grid systems), and performing dimensional control work in support of ship construction
  • Assigning work, providing technical guidance and direction, scoping and estimating tasks, budget, manpower planning, employee development and ATA
  • Development of optical tooling staff, compliance with applicable Technical Directives and company policies and procedures
  • Coordination of dimensional control activities with Groton, NNS, and vendors, and support of the Joint Accuracy Control discipline steering team
  • Issuing contractually required hull circularity & fairness reports
  • Preparing Capital Project Requests for procuring measurement equipment
  • Implementing Management Operating System (ACWL) techniques to improve Group performance
  • Facilitating the identification, testing and ultimate integration of new 3-D technologies at EB

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma 
  • 4 years experience in operations supervision or 4 years experience in Optical Tool
  • Candidate must be willing and able to travel in support of meetings / work at other facilities
  • Candidate must be able to provide leadership in support of Optical Tool work on 2nd shift

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of the various 3-D measurement systems used at EB, including Photogrammetry, Laser Tracker, Total Stations, & portable CMMs highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience working with Nuclear Construction and Repair (NCR) documents and test documents

 

Skills
  • Familiarity supporting dimensional control work in shipbuilding
  • Familiarity with 3D analysis tools, specifically Spatial Analyzer
  • Strong technical, communication and writing skills
  • Must have good computer skills and be proficient in MS Word, Excel & Power Point
