Duties & Responsibilities:

Summary

Our team develops optical test and measurement equipment for research labs and manufacturing facilities. We are looking for an optical testing engineer with experience across a broad spectrum of optical systems and technologies. The candidate should have a strong background in automation and optical analysis tools. The ideal candidate will have experience across the complete product life cycle, from design concept and research through development and new product introduction. In addition, customer interaction, technology roadmap development, and standards body activities will be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop testing platforms and automate optical testing solutions for R&D and production.

  • Perform design verification and characterization of new products or components and generate reports.

  • Present test data, analysis, and recommendations to other R&D teams for discussion and feedback.

  • Assess testing coverage, cycle time, throughput, and efficiency, and provide recommendations on design for testing (DfT).

  • Provide technical support to test and verify optical systems required as part of the optical test and measurement instrument portfolio. 

  • Support NPI and the transition of test stations from prototyping to production.

  • Explore the applicability of new technologies, provide concepts, and contribute to new business development, including product technology life cycle management.

  • Work with other optical designers in the R&D groups to establish efficiencies through tool selection/consolidation and training.

  • Participate in optical and system design reviews.

  • Interact with vendors and source required components for new products.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Familiarity with optical test equipment, metrology, and calibration methods.

  • Proficiency in software development or scripting in Python and LabVIEW.

  • Experience with various testing equipment and the ability to develop and set up testing solutions and automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to give and receive constructive criticism.

  • 3+ years of experience in the development of optical test systems and metrology in the fiber optics communications industry or a related field.

  • Knowledge of modern telecommunications and fiber optic transmission technologies.

  • Proven track record of working with multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with the following types of products: EDFAs, free-space optics, lasers, attenuators, optical spectrum analyzers, optical filters, polarization-maintaining fibers, polarimeters, optical power meters, and passive optical components.
