Full Job Description
Basic Function

The Operations Specialist is a key member of the Performance Team, responsible for driving excellence in one of several critical operational systems on site. The Specialist will serve as the primary owner of a designated focus area while maintaining a foundational understanding of all systems to ensure seamless collaboration and coverage across the team.

Job Duties

  • Drive adoption, optimization and reporting of process optimization software
  • Coordinate and enhance leadership training initiatives
  • Lead the rollout of new tools, technologies and process improvements
  • Manage cross-functional initiatives aligned with strategic goals
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all operational systems to support team continuity and ensure progress during absences or transitions.
  • Track KPI's, analyze trends and provide actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Partner with site leadership, frontline teams and external vendors to ensure successful execution of initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency, scalability and innovation with assigned systems and across the broader operation.
  • Continue fostering and coaching the operations teams on the deliverables in the OEMS Op Ex standards to include; Leadership, Shift Management and Communication, Process Monitoring, Maintain Barriers and Control, Managing Abnormal Situations, and Procedures
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 10 or more years of on-the-job experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree, or an equivalent combination of education (in a technical related field) and work experience, is required.

Required Skills

Ability to lead and train a small group of employees. Knowledge of company and safety policies and procedures; basic word processing, database, e-mail and spreadsheet applications skills; strong communications, people, presentation and organizational skills; detail oriented. Advanced ability to present training materials. Advanced knowledge of Process Safety Manual and operation of unit instrumentation and safety systems. Ability to use and test operators in the use of process unit simulators. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, and basic reading and writing skills. Preferred Skills: Special training and/or Certification in OSHA is preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May direct or lead the work of others from time-to-time.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based and with travel up to 25% by land or air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out of doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, confined spaces, and all temperatures including outdoors. Subject to varying road and weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 80lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 80lbs, climbing up to 200ft, perceiving color differences, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity. Job conditions may require making precise hand and finger movements.
